I don't think so, if you have the $ you can buy.

Actually not true, if you go Ebay. At least a new one on the market once a week. Just that the money is not easy to source. ;)

Always in the range of SGD 3000.00. :embrass:

If something cheaper and can produce better result why get the noct. :dunno:

YMMV

Noct is available commercially and it is not rare by any standard. However, the production level of this lens is not very high IIRC... in any case, the lens has a unique signature that no other lens can produce and given the initial price, factoring in inflation over the years, I think the current market price is just about right.

If you want rare pieces, go to Akiyama's Website :)

Thanks regit for the insight.
I still think it should not cost that much.
However if the demand is there than.....:dunno:

Correction: Nikon has already stopped production more than 7 years ago, till 1998, producing about 10.5k of various production version (3 it seems) units according to this page based on serial numbers. What is in the market now are those being bought and (re)sold.

The initial price was very high then as the front lens element is hand-polished aspherical element. Each Noct is thus hand-crafted and unique. Why? Read this (Warning: I'm not responsible for reactions after reading the article  )

On Ebay, the prices normally ranged from US$1200-$2400 (ie roughly between S$2-4k)

Errr... which part are you correcting?

The "Commercially available" part ;) Which to me, means you can buy from Nikon. You can't. They no longer sell the lens. But if you mean can buy between mostly private owners (cf "privately available"), yes, you still can...
