CV 12 or CV 15 or Tokina 11-16 or Tokina 12-24 ???

Check out the zm 15mm f2.8 lens. Usually zm, cv, leica lenses don't have visible distortion unlike dslr lens. Smaller too and unless you drop rulers on them, you can't tell.

That lens is worth a Leica Summilux 50mm ASPH. :bsmilie:

I think Peleng is a rebrand Samyang?

It looks completely different.

Hello, thinking of going for the Nikon 10-24. Its a bit expensive but it has the range at both end. Wide at 10mm and "long" at 24mm (so can use for general shot since 24mm is equivalent to 35mm on FF). The other alternative is the Tokina 12-24 - with this, thinking of covering wider than 12mm by using Pano mode!

Anyone have opinion to help with the final decision? Thanks in advance.

Hello, looking closely (after many reading/reviews) to either get the Nikon 10-24 or the Tokina 12-24.

Nikon 10-24 is more expensive but have the reach at both ends - 10mm for really wide and 24mm for causal shot (since equivalent to 36 mm FF). No need to swap lens so often (that's why the Tokina 11-16 and the Sigma 10-20 is "off" the shortlist) as my other lens is the SEL18200.

Tokina 12-24 (Ver 2) is less expensive but not cheap and have the reach to 24mm end but stop at 12 mm - maybe can use Pano mode at the 12mm position to try to "get" the 10mm effect!?

Would appreciate any comments or help in making the "final" decision. Many thanks.

Pano is definitely not the same as UWA coz it only works in one direction and in the other axis you even lose a bit. Anyway, you have to do the stitching manually, don't you? I am under the impression NEX only offers the mode with native wide angle lenses coz you can't dial in the focal length.

Hi ageha, pano works for non-E-mount/E-mount-without-OSS lens with certain limitation (there's a thread over at DPReview that is quite complete on this). Long story short, for non-E-mount/E-mount-without-OSS, the NEX-5N only will do pano with 1/500 shutter speed or faster. In other words, if the lighting conditions is good enough for a 1/500 shutter speed or higher, pano will work for non-E-mount/E-mount-without-OSS.

The SEL16/f2.8 have the problem - only when shutter speed can be 1/500 or faster then you can pano with the SEL16/f2.8. For OSS lens like the SEL1855 or SEL18200, pano works at very low speed (because it also make use of OSS for stablised-stitch).

I have the following OM Zuiko 24/f2.8, SEL16/f2.8, SEL1855 and SEL18200 and tried them on pano.

The OM and SEL16 can only pano in bright environment with 1/500 or faster but indoor, pano CMI :)

The SEL 1855 and SEL 18200 have no problem with pano in very low light (if I remember correctly, when I tested in my bedroom with just a couple of lights on, the shutter speed is 1/60 or something around there and the pano came out fine).

If you have the SEL16 and SEL1855, it will be fun to try ;)

Hi, went to town to check prices.

The Nikon 10-24 is $13++ (each "+" represent a digit hor ;))

The Tokina 12-24 is $7++

The Novoflex Nikon-G-NEX adaptor is $3++

The "no-brand" Nikon-G-NEX adaptor is $6+

Wah, have to choose between lens and then have to choose between adaptor.

Almost twice the price for Nikon but I remembered someone on the forum ever wrote "you can't buy the extra 2mm when you need it" and I think it is a very wise insight, Make choosing even more difficult!

The next question is whether the german precision adaptor or the "no-brand" adaptor?

After that, also whether to spend somemore $$$ for a protection filter?

Anyone can share some advice or experiences? Thanks in advance.

i went with no brand G adapter and it works just fine. there are quite a few g adapter around so make sure the one you are getting allows control of aperture via a pin / screw or something

if you believe in "you cannot buy the extra 2mm when you need it", you should go for 8-16mm as you get another 2mm compared to 10-24mm..
personally, i'd choose either the tokina 11-16mm (if you have the money) or 12-24mm (if you are on budget)

Hi rasdeep, thanks for the heads-up on the adaptor and will get one that have the aperture control ring.

Yeah, the Tokina 11-16 have rave reviews and seem like a great lens. However, I think my problem is that I know how "long" I need for the UWA but can't make up my mine how "wide" is so call "right".

For the "long" end, I think I need 24 mm (equivalent to 36) so that I can use the lens more (like street or indoor) and don't need to keep swapping lens since 16mm or even the Sigma 20mm seem a bit short. So looking for the "long" end to be 24 mm.

But the "wide" end, I am completely clueless.:embrass::hung:

If I know (and I don't know and I don't have experience) that 12 is good enough, I will go for the Tokina 12-24. But I check so much on the web and seen so much pictures from 10 mm and 12mm that I think 12mm maybe OK but better get 10mm. This is where I hope can get some more advice.

If indeed, it is great to have the 10mm at the "wide" end, I guess I will cough out the $$$ for Nikon. But the $$$ difference with the Tokina is so much so I don't want to buy a 10mm wide but end up mostly using 12mm (but I don't have experience to know).

Anyway, thanks to anyone who comment one way or the other

Nobody can answer this question except yourself and without testing them, you will never know. so i suggest you get the widest and start shooting, only from there you know if you need that extra "2mm".. if you dont need them, just sell and change lens.. talking is not going to solve your problem

you can also try rent few lenses and try yourself..

Yup, if you never shot with any of those UWA focal lenses you simply can't know what you actually want.

I have a 7mm for m43 (= 14mm) and for me it's not wide enough.

Hi everyone, thanks for all the advices. Have decided to go for the Nikon 10-24. Went to SLS today and got a good quote of $12++ for original Nikon with 1 year warranty. Now will go and get the Nikon-G-Nex adaptor with the aperture control ring :) Thanks again.
