Custom setting for Nex camera (IR photo)

Why The Green leave not white in colour?

No sure where went wrong.

Below is the step and setting

Camera NEX 3N
Filter 720nm


1) Set Custom white balance. Mount on IR filter shoot on green grass with strong sunlight on it.
Error sign shown but just click ok (too dark). Nex camera can't select photo take previously to set as custom WB.
This a problem here.

2)Mount on tripod .Auto focus and frame the image.Then set back to manual focus.

3)Manual mode set apeture and shutter speed with ISO 400. Try and error.(usally 2 -15sec , F5.6 , ISO400 - 1600)

Result: green leave not white (still green). reddish sky or image.

1st time taking IR .Any expert can advice on this especially Custom WB. Thank in advance.

when you set custom WB balance, if it shows no good, either is too overexposed or too underexposed, just adjust your exposure setting till you get it.

since your custom WB balance failed, so camera just use whatever custom WB last recorded successfully.

camera meter are design to measure visible light, and there is a great different of IR wavelength presents between sunny day and cloudy day, so you can't rely on camera meter, just take a shot and read from the histogram for gauging your exposure.

Thanks for the tip. IR filter is on when setting Custom WB.The only success is the sky and the rest fail with green leave or tree.

I am not sure how to adjust the exposure in custom WB . As there is no way i can adjust the shutter or apeture when setting custom WB.

Perhaps you can try, aperture priority mode, put on IR filter, aim at grass and see either by eye or histogram and then adjust the EV comp. Take a shot to double check, if ok then at the same position(don't move away and hopefully clouds don't suddenly alter the lighting) and setting, do the CWB process.

Try but cwb still give error. Ev adjust to +3 (max)

I'm not knowledgeable enough to troubleshoot, I can only guess. Maybe the shot you are doing for CWB is out of the colour shift range of the Nex 3N, but this would be quite strange. Is your Nex 3N converted or not?

I hope some experienced member can better advise you.

Mine not converted , using 720nm filter China's brand.
