Well to reply the TSer's qn..
Simply put if you are model who:
- Wants to be paid for something simple, like standing and smiling, then roadshows, carshows, IT shows are the way to go.
- Wants to be paid for actual modeling; then I suggest the model go gain some experience first before talking about monetary compensation.
Alternatively, go for casting calls offered by the model agencies and hopefully you can land a show or two. Some shows (e.g. hairshow) require little or no experience.
As you progress, you will know more about the industry and what kind of rates to command given your current standing and generally know what you want to do. (E.g. expanding portfolio with more beauty shots? Editorial? etc)
All said and done, TFCD, like most, is the way to go when gaining experience. Just be selective of who you work with to maximize your time
If you really really want to know, what's the market rate like for CS (yes CS only and not reflective of the modeling industry as a whole)- simple. Just say you're a photog and PM / Email the models on the personal services offered thread and ask them what they're charging.
Hope my 2 cents worth of text helps. Cheers.
