Just want to know what is the current market rate ($/hr) for freelance model. Is there a higher rate for those willing to do bikini shots? If you have engaged freelance model, please share. Thanks.

Bikini shoots are definitely more exp then casual shoots.

There's a whole forum section dedicated to this. Go look there.

i could never understand why we should pay a model to make beautiful pictures of them when its just for leisure and self interest..

its just like a higher class of flash trade.. haha

The flesh trade is everywhere, in varying forms. Nothing wrong with it and no reason to condemn/avoid it.

When there are humans being on earth, i think the trade started.....just that there are more forms now.

You can always shoot friends

Imagine a model would probably receive countless request from photographers to do TFCD. Most probably after all she will have tons of free cd of all the photos taken on her by those photographers. They will be useless to her if most of them are common and not unique. She could just get a friend to take those photos for her to keep. You have to really be good or be able to take the type of photos that the model feel is outstanding taht are able to build up her portfolio. That is why TFCD requests by most models must be minimum "out of the box". Remember photographers probably want free photo taking session but models want unique photos out of the time they give.

It should be a fact that some models take paid photoshoot as a side line to make some extra income. Some may be aiming for stardom though if they are able to capture the attention of artists, designers, ad firms or advertisers etc. So i feel it would be fair to pay if you truely want to gain some experience in working with a model, be it male or female. As for the models one important thing is to keep to the timing at least have the courtesy to inform a photographer earlier if she cannot make it on actual shoot day or do not feel like it after giving the photographer an agreement to take up aany shoot.

keep shooting trees and insects if you're too cheap to compensate people for their time. :nono::thumbsd:

True, i second that.

Damn.... I must be part of the cheapo club... I shoot more insects than humans...

I ask my best friends to model for me! I'm blessed to have absolutely gorgeous friends who just have that X Factor. :)

Well to reply the TSer's qn..

Simply put if you are model who:

- Wants to be paid for something simple, like standing and smiling, then roadshows, carshows, IT shows are the way to go.

- Wants to be paid for actual modeling; then I suggest the model go gain some experience first before talking about monetary compensation.

Alternatively, go for casting calls offered by the model agencies and hopefully you can land a show or two. Some shows (e.g. hairshow) require little or no experience.

As you progress, you will know more about the industry and what kind of rates to command given your current standing and generally know what you want to do. (E.g. expanding portfolio with more beauty shots? Editorial? etc)

All said and done, TFCD, like most, is the way to go when gaining experience. Just be selective of who you work with to maximize your time :)

If you really really want to know, what's the market rate like for CS (yes CS only and not reflective of the modeling industry as a whole)- simple. Just say you're a photog and PM / Email the models on the personal services offered thread and ask them what they're charging.

Hope my 2 cents worth of text helps. Cheers.

To the thread starter, I think you would want to make clear your scope.
If you're getting girls outside of CS, they're not paid much at all. Even the car show girls are paid less than what CS is offering, though the real models at car shows are paid alot alot more.

If you're talking about the talents in CS, they expect 2 - 5 times more than the outside rate. From my observation, there are plenty of socially inept guys (and some photographers) are more than willing to pay the amt to get closer to the girls.

Thanks for all the replies. I have not done photography on models. Thus far, the 'models' I have were family members and most of the time the photographs were for certain family events and more of capturing the essense of the events than the human expressions. It is my opinion that capturing the human spirit is not an easy task. Perhaps an experience model would be familiar with that. I suppose an experience model would not do a free shooting session.

Maybe as a beginner to the model photography scene, it is alright to start with a non-paying model and from there move on. So for all those models who wish for a photography session in exchange for an album in CD format, do contact me. ;)

As long as there're ppl that're willing to pay. Actually the role of the model is also not ez, it's not like posing in front of your friends or family members ;)

Lets see, cheaper to shoot in groups lar. When i get serious about shooting models i prefer a 1 to 1 session - yeh i am willing to pay for that if the model is to my liking and won't contaminate my sensor :bsmilie:

cheaper to shoot in groups lah :bsmilie:

Do you have friends who will be willing to help you out?
