CS server is slow

Hi all. Thanks to those who came to our defense and showing appreciation, really grateful about it. It is little sincere appreciation like these that really make our efforts all worthwhile.

Regarding the recent slowdown, we do understand how frustrating it could be. Reassure that the admins are doing all their best to resolve the issue. On the other hand, we would like to seek your understanding that they do have a day job to take care of, not to mention the family as well. Please bear with us for a little longer, and hopefully we could get the problems resolved as soon as possible.

If CS was a paid service, which I gave money to, I might complain about it. Then again, news of this migration was put up, and things like this can take some time.

Almost all of us are NOT paying for this forum. Really wonder why people complain about a free service. If you do not like it here, please go patronise another forum.


To the people running CS, :thumbsup: for all the effort you have put into making this THE photo forum for Singapore, and not forgetting our international members.

I am frustrated because the CS server breaks down very often.

Is that being unreasonable ? come on.....

I know I am not paying a single cent for this service, but that doesn't mean the forum can be "entitle" to breakdown this often. Come on team, bring up the service a little. Show people we are can do it....

Come ON people. I know very well what I am saying. How do you know that the admin team is working ? I don't .. All I know is that the server down time is alot. thats what I know. I am only speaking out the truth. Nothing but the truth... is speaking the truth an unreasonable act ?

I am only speaking out my personal opinion here. Yes, we are not paying a single cent to CS for using the services. But, on the other hand, we are contributing pictures, and making use of the buy/sell section to increase the viewer ship. Without us, do you think that people will advertise with CS? In a way, we are working "free of charge" for CS also. don't you think so ? Without us, there will not be any advertisement fees coming in also.

When a server is down , it is down. Money is lost. I am also working in an IT department. million of dollars will be lost if server is not able to service for a day. We often have to work on the server only after office hours or weekends. I know exactly what it is like. And I can tell you that technically , it is able to provide a fail proof forum.

first. you are not even appreciative about how much the admins and the mods have contributed to this forum and how much they sacrificed their time to keep everything up and in running order.

its not as if you have paid / own / or even subscribe to clubsnap !

seriously. come to think about it. your comments make you Unreasonable, arrogant seriously, if you wish to switch forum and continue your rant somewhere else. i suggest you take your leave, as you won't be appreciated here.

You have not even appreciate and encourage the admins or mods for taking their time off, doing the migration, doing the fixing up and all.

How could you even say such a thing like "i am already very patient and relax or else i would be flowing 4 letter words"

(and before i write off this reply. May i inform you that ClubSNAP is a free community, and everything and everyone is doing things voluntarily for the sake of the community. and it being free. you are given a world class forum, since CS is ranked 3rd in the world, i would hope you would be more appreciative of what every members here, mods and admins have put in to built clubsnap to what it is today.)
 

uhh... no. i grin and bear instead of complain, since the mods are probably trying their best and complaining isn't going to achieve anything :nono:

Lets put it this way.

We do not have any full time personnel to sit down and watch over to servers like what corporations do, we cannot match to how they operate nor how efficient they are in tackling breakdowns.

Whether you are a IT professional or not. it doesnt matter to me. The fact lies that people put in time and effort to run this. And every piece of server, hardware, software, and any other things that make CS happen is out of the admin's own pocket, own time and effort.

If you being a IT personnel cannot understand what is required, and how much effort is needed to run such a big forum. I guess this is no place for you.

We are trying our very best to keep this community up and running, as smooth as possible, yet without being appreciative of what others have done and brought to you, you give such comments which are totally unnecessary.

viewership and advertising is totally irrelevant to what we are discussing about the speed of the forums.

If you think you are working free of charge for CS. then i guess CS is not for you, and you should leave the forum and work for other's out there whom will pay you to visit their forums.

if you think you are able to PROVIDE a FAIL PROOF SOLUTION that is of ZERO COST. ZERO BURDEN to the CS Admins and Moderators, i suggest you start a thread, and list your solutions, so that the admins and mods would be able to review them, and decide if these changes would compromise or improve the forum in one way or another.

Talk is cheap for anyone. If you say you can provide a solution. PROVE IT.
 

this is a common problem with our society - everything is handed to us on a silver platter so

when it is not, we make a hell of a noise.

lkkang - to be fair, YES, forums being down is frustrating. YES, we all wish it would not be that way. but do you really think it warrants all the comments you have made so far, like people owe you money? i have been to other forums, the same thing happens, there is downtime as well, and even pbase has its cui moments. and the latter is a paid service.

Maybe the thread starter, an IT professional can provide FREE solutions and as he mentioned before work free of charge for CS?

You are only speaking from a user perspective. How much do you know about operating a server and trouble-shouting the various causes for slow response or outages? Your knowledge looks rather limited to me. Stop ranting about a service that is free to you and delivered by enthusiastic people in their spare time.
Technically it is possible, that's right. But are you willing to pay for it? Do you think such technology is available in Sim Lim Square for 3.50 at weekends? If you can provide any substantial support to make the server run better I'm sure everybody will be glad accepting your help.

To KLK, hi. Bluntly put I need to point your ignorance and thanks for giving me the chance to share this for the benefit of the community. I've been with ClubSNAP since its inception in Jan 2002 and let me share with you that the efforts put in by the Admin to ensure that we can have a forum to call our own (since we parted ways with HWZ's DC&P) starting with getting the domain name and forum software, acquiring bandwidth and subsequently acquiring our own servers and paying for hardware related upgrades so that we can be more independent have really taken alot out of them, in addition they are like everyone else, holding a day job and have a family to attend to. The efforts put in by them (namely Darren, Edmund, Jason and Simon) since inception which there are so many to list and besides judging from the intent of your posts I doubt they don't matter to you are many times more than what you're doing here and now.

You have not only heard from the Mod Team but also the rest. Really for your sake, move on.

To the rest of the supportive CS members, new and old I appreciate and appeal for your understanding. ClubSNAP must mean something to you, otherwise you wouldn't be 'disturbed' and start to voice your concerns. As nightwolf has explained, do bear with us for this period. We regret the disruptions and didn't want that to happen too. Do give us some time and let the Admin (who have delivered in the past) to sort this out. I'm sure we'll get this up and running as usual business soon.

I am active on quite a few forum communities. Every day when my PC is switched on, all my regular forums will be opened on different tabs and I do a 'routine' check every so often for new posts. CS is always on one of the opened tabs.

Yes, I have noticed that CS has been much slower these last few days. But I have also noticed that some members comments have not lost steam at all. I really must say that this is uncalled for. I especially like nightwolf's reply for one impatient member to "feel free to leave". How true and direct this is!!! :thumbsup: You are free to come in, you are also free to move on out. :bsmilie::bsmilie:

I have shared the URL of our forum here with quite a few of my friends in the USA and Europe who share our same passion of photography, and all have commented that we have a great forum and community here. I am ready to wait for everything to be restored... I know it is worth the wait. Thanks Admin and mods for your hard work... and please do not be overly worried by undue comments... remember that it takes all kinds to make the world go round... you've just met some of the other kinds. Hahaha

OK... Me goes back into the background and will continue my wait. ;)

ps... thought I'd add this... yes, I have been a member here for a long time, and yes, I seldom post. But I have been learning lots from the sifu's and guru's here... and thought I should take the opportunity to say thanks to all. Cheers :)
