CS bicycles and cyclist thread

I agree with the first part of what you said but not the second. This is Singapore, i see joggers, pedestrains with pets and cyclists cycling abreast on all this "Cycling Paths" all the time and wherever i go so cycling on the roads are actually safer.

It's easier for parties to stop or give way to one another on the paths because of the slower speeds than on the roads.

Survival chances from crashes on the paths are also much higher than from a motorised vehicle crash. Sustained damages from path accidents also likely to be much lower.

Safety on the paths is far better even with reckless riders. As long as one uses brains, eyes, loud voice and fast braking fingers, accidents on paths can be averted.

Hello you have as much right to use the road as any other vehicle on the road..EVEN with a cycling path next to it. Though it is stupid for anyone to NOT use the path provided and ride on the road.

Hi, I'm merely pointing out that under the Raod Traffic rules, cyclists are not allowed to ride on the road, if there is a cycling path provided. :)

As you yourself have pointed out much much earlier in this thread, there are a lot of other users on the cycling path. Training on the road is more effective as there are lesser obstructions, although not the safest.

Let me balance this our...

heheh I am very aware of that as a avid cyclist for more then 30 yrs. Half as a roadie and the other half as a mountain biker. I push my bike on pathways and walkways. I never take my bike onto anywhere with a hint of people on foot walking. If I do, I push the bike. I stay on the biking lane always. I never ride to cross pedestrian crossing (for those who don't know it is illegal for you to ride your bike to cross the pedestrian). When I see a crossing walk bridge to get across from ECP to East Coast, I get off and push.

Paths with too much people walking like they own the bike path at parks yes.. but I will still stay on the bike path but I will curse and swear. I have never fail to tell off at least 20 or 30 people to keep off it when they are not cycling.

I got knocked down and almost knocked down and killed if I was not a better rider and have been mindful of where and how I cycle. Slow or fast.

To be fair to cars to, I hate cyclists as much and there are too alot of bad sheeps. I am not even talking about the beginners or the odd worker riding to work..eg. I am talking people with good bikes and full gear who act like idiots on the road or pathway. And I saw some got knocked down and get more then just passing wound.. good for them. But really it takes two hands to clap in all my years of cycling. You want to not do the right thing then expect the worst. I have learnt to be brave on the road and still be safe even with bad drivers. It is about common sense but unfortunately I see very little of it. I see people riding their bloody bikes on 5 foot way of shops!.. and knock people and still think they are right! I have people riding in twos or thress in a rows on roads. Worst ...weaving about. Car hit you... whoes fault? Sure cars are usually in the wrong in the eye of the law if it hit a person or like a cyclist. Because cars are suppose to be more dangerous then a bike or person on foot but there is a thin line that separates a idiot dashing out from no where and cause the car driver to react. I have seen more then just one side of the story. In the end, what action are you going to take people. want to curse when you already got hit, or you hit someone or you want to do your part? Boy do I have some scary stories to tell you if you want to know how close I got hit but I also never stop riding.

Oh I am also formerly from Police NS in division and so I am pretty sure about the law on cycling on the road and about pathway. And ya I am happy if they summon more irrate bikers along with with cars owners. I really wish they up the fine. Want to change things, it starts from looking both side just like you have to when you cross the road.

Hi Sammy thanks for sharing your experience, especially on safety aspects of cycling. Just an update that minister wong kan Seng has clarified it's not illegal to cycle across pedestrian crossings. Just need to exercise care when doing so.

I have yet to see that happen..... "exercise care"

At my place in recent month, they just started putting up metal post with the NO CYCLING sign. It is still business as usual with all the people who bike about.

I agree with the first part too, and not the second part. Especially not when it involves East Coast Park. Those cycling paths are for kids and leisure people who rent bikes from East Coast. I'm not sure why someone would even travel at anything above the speed limit (15kmh - it's stated clearly along the entire path) while on these cycling paths.

seriously i second this.. freaking alot of dam brainless people that dont know how to keep on their lane and keep left if they are just learning especially rollerblader, i met an accident late February at east coast park with a female skater that suddenly just come out from no where as i was cycling 35km/hr and unfortunately, my left handle hook onto her and i flew like superman from my bike causing a right fractured humerus ( the bone which connects ur elbow to your shoulder)

And she still can ask me if i needed an Ambulance when i told her i broke my arm.. in the end i missed this year OCBC cycle  which i quickly go register during November. In the end , casted for 2 months, than didnt recover, so doc gave me 1 metal plate and 6 screws grand prize. Now, im back on my bike and never will go East Coast park on weekends..

A lesson learned , a painful and suffering experience for the whole 4months injury period.

Hope bros out there do ride safely during the weekends..:)

If you want to cycle at 35km/hr, please join cycling event where there are Road Marsahal to clear the road.

Did anyone read about the 5 cyclists hit along West Coast Highway?

anyone interested in org a CS Forum Cyclist Outing? Eat, shoot & cycle.:think:

I haven't cycled since Oct last year. In fact... I think that's how I got into photography! :bsmilie:

Is it true that if we are cycling a road-bike, on the road, it is an offend if we do not wear helmet?

Cause that time i went to get back my fixed bike, a road-bike, i didn't care to bring my helmet along as it was only a few blocks of HDB down. The uncle saw me and went to fetch my bike. I paid, obviously, and was about to cycle off. Then the uncle told me that if i don't have a helmet, don't cycle on the road even if very near to my house. he adviced me to carry home as cycling on perdestrain road is bumpy and may spoil the spook again... -.-"

Cheers. & Ofcourse i didn't carry it home.

i have no experience in org a cycle trip, i can help if someone leads.

i think some of the things to consider are :

1) safety veh
2) route plan (must include nice food eateries along the way for tea breaks?)
3) experience cyclist to help out with puncture tyre
4) different cat of cyclist, like beginner (where i belongs to), experience.

how about east coast park? Got McDonnels and food courts... :)

And those with no bikes can rent there....

It's always good to wear a helmet, don't think it's compulsory ! I endo in one of my trip and lay unconscious for some time, helmet cracked but not my skull ! Sometime it's fate, my cycling buddy, NTU undergrad was ran over by a soldier with a severe hangiover on a Sunday morning ! Take care !

Tried that in Ubin before. But it's hard to focus on shooting when you are tired from cycling uphills...

But east coast park is on flat ground. Easier to enjoy and more subjects to shoot.

ubin abit tough for newbie like me lay.

ec sounds ggod but i feel it may be abit short, can season cyclist advance if there is a safe way (ie less cycling on the road) from ec to changi village? like that both ends also got good food er... motivation i mean ;p;p
