After checking the critique corner, i found that many threads were titled, "newbie pic", "first try at XXX", etcetc

i would urge all who want to post their pics up to give a title to their threads, instead of using the above titles.

Pictures without titles only serve 2 purposes IMO:
1) to clock up readership (since people do not know the contents and have to open to see it)
2) you are not sure what you want to portray (in this case, you shouldn't even be posting up your shots)

just my 2¢

What if they simply want to portray their first shots of something?

from the guidelines for critiques section:
"some guidelines for photographers posting photos for critique;
1. know your subject
2. draw attention to your subject
3. simplify.
it would also be helpful to post a short paragraph telling us why you took the pic and what you were trying to achieve photographically."

in response to your qn, if they want to portray their first shots of something, they should do so under appropriate galleries instead of the critique section...it's just like asking a pri 1 kid to write his first essay and submit to ST forums for publishing...

Fair enough, I agree with you.
