Actually having a nice screen is not only for videos. You will enjoy your photos so much more when you view them on a nicer screen too. I mean, isnt that what you buy the device for in the first place? If you just want a device to transfer cards, you can probably get a Digimate casing and a reasonably big harddisk for $200 in total.

To me the screen for such viewing devices is very important. The epson p3000 will definitely be available in US much sooner than in S'pore. Probably cheaper there too. According to the Epson website, P3000 is available for US$499 (< S$800), which is quite reasonable for the cutting edge technology. Street prices may even be lower.

Enjoying photos on such a small screen? Humm... I tried the 4 types of these device today, the Creative Zen, Archos, Epson and Vosonic. Interms of image quality and playback on big screen, Archos is the best. Biggest Screen is Creative Zen. Both Archos and Epson are very expensive. In terms of image quality, I find vosonic to be very acceptable for that price. Audio quality almost the same for all. But interms of accessories and replacement, Vosonic is the cheapest. All except Vosonic do not encourage the user to change HD themselves. So for people like me with 4 - 5 2.5" HD to swap around, the ease of changing HD is important.

To me the screen is for me to preview and make sure the photos are all copied over properly, and also to view exif data easily. Not so much of enjoying the photos. So the LCD's main function is for navigation. Those sub $200 HD storage cannot view Exif data of the photos, and this function is critical for me.

We are not talking about comparing photoviewing on a big screen vs small screen. Given the same small screen, it's obviously better to have one with better quality.

Annyway, the reason why there are low end and high end products are that they are designed for people with different budgets and requirements. If the epson p3000 is really going for US$499 or less, it's definitely gonna be my preferred choice.

My point is how to enjoy a photo on such a small screen? Anyway you are right to say that they are design for different user. I use the vosonic to record TV programmes most of the time. :)

I have the Vosonic 8360.... depends on what one really are looking for. I have had a portable HD previously for backing my pictures (without viewing) and that was all it can do (apart from being A portable HD).

With this Vosonic, I can do all the above plus view the pictures and exif data, listening to mp3 and radio (about 10hours of battery life) and watching videos (about 4 hours). So for me it is really "worth" for a gadget that can do almost all the things that I want it to do.

So really it depends on oneself. For me this is a keeper.

With this Vosonic, I can do all the above plus view the pictures and exif data and when i am not shooting I can still use it for listening to mp3 and radio (about 10hours of battery life) and watching videos (about 4 hours). Oooops! Double post.

Sorry.

Just saw and tried out the unit tonight at Best Vivocity, good stuff! The video playback was simply stunning!

Am thinking of getting such a device as well, but probably need to try out Vosonic 8360 and 8390, which are good for recording programs (something which creative zen doesn't have).

Anyhow, creative zen is totally droolsome!

Yeah have been recording programs with the 8360 recently. The quality is not bad.. :) Vosonic 8360 is a jack of all trade master of non lah. But overall, it is cheap and has lots of nice features.

to those who has vp8360, may i know how long does it takes to copy a full 1GB images.

Have not benchmark...copied 6GB in less then 10min. (Normal Speed) It has the option to go high speed, but I did not choose it.

One thing I like about the Vosonic is also the exchangeable harddisk and the battery is affordable.

I read that the 8360 can do a max recording of up to 2G? How many hours of program is that?

Thanks!

Guys, do consider abt the aftersales service oso.

Btw, the Creative Zen Vision uses a 1.8" HDD while the others are using a 2.5" HDD. In the event that the warranty period is over, you'll appreciate the cost of a 2.5" HDD over the 1.8" HDD.

What is the cost of 2.5" and 1.8" ?

What is the cost of 2.5" and 1.8" ?

The Creative Zen uses a Toshiba HDD. So I'll just do a comparison using the Toshiba 1.8" vs 2.5"

Toshiba 1.8" 40GB ~ $289 (with 1 yr warranty)
Toshiba 2.5" 40GB ~$85 (with 3 yrs warranty)

Anyone knows what's the cheapest deal of this gadget, the 60GB version?

TIA!

More like recording in 2hrs block. About 1GB each block.

was told by EG sales rep, the transfer speed of vp8360 is abt 4mins for 1GB full of images on normal speed.

Let me do a test to verify...transfer 6GB of photos from my CF card and I estimated it was about 10min or so.
