i've had quotes over here in the uk for about 400 pounds for a USM change. If you're thinking of picking one off ebay/net to fix, i think its a better idea to buy a new one. If it is indeed your lens, i hope its covered under insurance. Mine is all under my housing and covers damage from accidents as well..
haiizzzz you scour the other forums alot.. like to stalk me ;p ;p

lens is not mine. i have mine covered in insurance.
its some guy's L lens that suffered and I was just doing an assessment of the damage from the photos...
wonder if it made sense to buy and fix it. i dont think the usm is broken. rather the lens just came apart. but who knows?

you know.. i am figuring that out.
btw the link you sent about NJ CPS.
its like 15mins away from me
hahaa =) hope i dont have to go there for any reason. *touch wood*

good to know it's in your region. hope this helps.

its hardly ever worth repairing such a low value lens to be honest. The amount of work that needs to be done is just too much, esp realigning the elements. the 70-200 if i am not mistaken is actually two pieces screwed together. However, for all tele lenses, alignment of elements seems to be a major issue, even more so with a zoom having so many elements. I'd really advice against taking on the job when its so cheap to buy a used one. Btw, i wasn't stalking you but rather making a wild guess. I've asked the same questions before, albeit for a 500 f4.5 and a 400 f2.8
