Hi,
I want to learn cinematography. Which institutees would you recommend.
Also are there any institutes offering the courses on part time basis. Would be helpful to know cost of the course and duration as well.

Thanks in advance for the help.

In Singapore, I think the only recognised institution is Ngee Ann Poly's Film Sound & Video course where you'll really get to touch real motion film camera.
In the full diploma course, you should be able to get experience with 16mm film, and in the Advanced Dip in Film Production (ADFP) course, you should be able to experience with 35mm.

there is another costly production course you can try.. Tisch singapore.

TISCH is very expensive for me.
I am currently working elsewhere (in financial services), have been photographer for over 10 years at a very serious ameture level. Want to shift to Cinematography. Could you suggest ways of learning Cinematography and moving to the charming of film making.

You already have the basics of lighting and framing I suppose....next thing to learn is the basics of storytelling..

Get yourself some books on filmmaking techniques....
I strongly recommend "The 5Cs of CInematography" by Mascelli

I have 2 queries.
1.Would any cinematographer based at Singapore be looking out for an assistant
2. Has anyone shifted from a stable job to move into cinematography and is based out of singapore whom I can meet up with for about half hour.

actually a lot of cinematographers or DPs in singapore are on a freelance basis unless you work for shooting gallery or some other medium size production house which hires full time DP. its not hard to get an assistant job in singapore if you know the correct person or you could start from being a PA first and have some contacts of different people who can help... at the end of the day job atitude is very important and the circle is small so if your bad others will know very soon.

The ADFP course has been discontinued. Sad, but true. :(

You could try moving images, Temasek Poly, I was from there and we're exposed to High Def film making. We also have a multi million dollar HD editing lab. First in south east asia. Haha :D

there is the NYU (New York University) linked film school which was set up in SG quite recently.

Its called Tisch School of the Arts.

The students produced some really decent short and feature films.. can check it out!

i suppose the fees are on the high side since its a private school.

here's the webby:

Tisch

yup it's on a high... the fees are socket pooping but considering the fact that they bring the best in the world to teach... and 1 of them american matt siegel... he's good was lucky to be at his cinematographer workshop...

okay , my brother is pursuing a course from Whistling Woods international you can try your luck there , it is one of the best institutions in Asia ... all the leading film artists are working as a faculty ... and they have amazing placements also .. here is the link
