Hmmz...ok...,eaning to say that after i format, all the images shld start from IMG_0001?

that's only to prevent the counter from being messed up from the first time u use the camera. if u format now, it won't help because it's already recorded in the camera. but u can reset the counter if you wan though the menu.

however, it's still not confirmed is it fault with the CF bring used before, bug in camera or worst camera used before.

Hmmm...I just checked the manual, cannot find the instructions leh. Hahhaa. Anyway I really do recall reading that somewhere.

For my case, I normally just do a format everytime I get a new CF card. Most importantly, for your case, it better not be that the shutter count is 5000+ (which I doubt so, unless u got ur camera at lucky plaza :p)

Ahh yes, ya folder name is not the same as mine.. At least ya file nos starts from a decently small nos.. Ahh, nvm, i will give canon or the shop a call tmr. Sorry for all the panic caused, will report the outcome duely tmr..

Niocholas, thanks ley, answered my call and replied me in cs somemore.. Haha..
Thank you kelvin, skyline and Zplus..
NP. :D Must help fellow NTU-mates. ;)

One last question:

Nicholas: did u format ya CF card?

Are scandisk 512Mb CF cards supposed to be sealed in packages?

I formatted it with my A80 already. so just popped it in only. some places they seal while some don't. Unless the seals are special type of seals, those normal transparent scotch tape won't mean the CF are unused.

I really hope it's just a bug in the camera. If not there will be trouble for the shop...

As for now i still have confidence the shop will give a proper explaination to convince me, i mean, they should bah? Haha..

Let's just wait for the outcome of my call as for now ;)

It should just be the CF card..should be.. ;)

Heh! Hope you can resolve the problem!

I know the pain. I quite particular about these things too. That's why I always check that its brand new and all that at the shop. Don't really trust the salesman unless I personally know him.

:D

Most likely its the CF card. Unlikely the camera shot 5K shots already. ;p
Still its safer to check.

my started with 101<-(I don't know what this means) -1001. After many trial shots taken and deleted, today I transfered them over into my pc and their starting number is IMG_0142.

the directory looks like this: C:\Documents and Settings\Nicholas\My Documents\My Pictures\2004_06_11
shouldn't u a CF card reader to copy the files out?

CF card reader is not a necessity but then again, I wun wanna use my DSLR body as a $1700+ card reader. :D (Besides, it is not USB 2.0 and it is hack of a slow coach.)

If u download using Canon's Zoombrowser, then the folder name starts with the shoot date. But if u download using Win Explorer (at least for WinXP), then u have the option of naming the folder the way you want - and this usually is 'carried forward' to the next time u download in the same way. Also if no filename prefix is set, then the images shd start with IMGxxx. This is what I learnt - applies the same for both my G3 and 300D.

Hi all,

How do i see the actual nos of shots taken with my 300D? I took my first pics and when i upload to my laptop, the images were stored in 758CANON and the pics' names starts from IMG_5802? How can this be? Shouldn't it start from IMG_0001?

Hi, where did u bought ur camera?
I heard from some shops in Peninsula plaza that u r actually able to return the camera to the shop if u r not satisfied with it within 1 month...but with condition of a $50 charge. Not sure how true is this...anyway I did not bought my camera from there.

If its true then they might be chances that some shops are selling "2nd hand" camera that are refunded by customers.

Too poor to get a card reader at the moment. But I also fear if i keep taking the CF card in and out it might spoil faster

Thanks for asking nicholas.. Today called the Canon sales enquiries, they are not working. Called Funan showroom several times, nobody answered. Called the shop, i suggested the CF card it's not new, he said it's not possible and gave me Sandisk's numbers to call. I called, nobody answered!

I guess it's better for me to call Canon on monday to verify with them if i can do a counter check on my camera myself. If they need me to bring down the camera, i'll only be free next next monday! :(
