Cotton Carrier Camera System

Anyone doing MO ? I have been loitering in that website for sometime now waiting for opportunity to buy. First must convince my wife after getting so many bags and a pelican case for keeping the camera. I wonder if it will cause any problem even if we do not hand carry the item onto plane. S'pore ban importing of bullet proof vest and this one just happen to look like one !:bsmilie:
Maybe you can order 2 at one go then if they ask you whether it is bulletproof, you can let them try with their gun. When the customs people finally realise that it is nothing suspicious maybe you can ask for compensation?:bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie:

I just ordered 5 of the Cotton Carriers, the standard ones. Two are already spoken for.

The total cost was US$800.98 so it's US$160.20 each, shipping included.

Those interested please PM me. First PM received, first served. Conversion to S$ will only be done upon receipt of my credit card bill. Based on an exchange rate of 1.45, it should be around S$232.30.

I will furnish evidence of my cost to buyers.

Thanks!

Old Boy reserved one already. Thanks! Will contact you when goods arrive

I forgot to mention that if I have to pay GST, I'll have to pass that on to buyers. Essentially, I'll sell at cost. No profit.

Thanks!

That is a good news....I will be waiting for anyone selling the holster. :)

Just sent an email to them asking some questions and am awaiting a reply. If all goes well, I will be selling my R strap RS4 to get the CC either by shipping on my own, or through Mauler. Ups for him and his effort!

Here's my email:

Hey there, I've got a few questions on the Cotton Carrier system and I hope you can answer them.

Firstly, I think this looks to be a great product that will give me the ability to shoot with two cameras without the need for straps. I very much prefer to go strapless (other than hand straps).

Question 1: Will the following work when I want to use a tripod often?

(From 'top to bottom' - in relation to the camera itself)
Canon 5D mark 2 (camera)
Camdapter Manfrotto Plus Quick Release Plate + Canon E1 hand strap (connected to top right strap lug of 5D2 and the lug on the QR plate)
Manfrotto 323 RC2 Quick release adapter
Some sort of 3/8" to 1/4" adapter and possibly a washer around the adapter for security
Cotton Carrier Camera Insert (Standard)
Cotton Carrier Vest

Question 2: Is the above setup 'safe'? I'm quite hesitant to go this way because there are no less than 5 contact points between each of the elements stated above where all sorts of weird things can happen to cause my camera to drop to the ground.

Question 3: Has anyone (or have you) experienced sweat dripping onto the camera for such a setup? I'm thinking that if I'm shooting on a particularly hot and humid day, I will perspire and sweat from my head can drip onto the camera in such a position.

Question 4: Would having two cameras on the vest & holster not allow me to wear a standard backpack?

Lastly, Question 5: Has anyone (or have you) tried using the system with an external flash unit mounted onto the camera? Does it feel unwieldy? The idea of having 30cm of gear protruding from my chest doesn't seem practical. I'm fine with using the Cotton Carrier without a flash.

Any comments would help! Might be selling an R strap to afford this if I get positive answers.

Hi,

Headshotzx wrote to me about the shipping on my order of 5 standard Cotton Carriers.

When I placed my original order, the UPS Worldwide Expedited service was US$105.98 in total. When I got the PM, I went back to CC's site and tried to order another 5 to check and ascertain the shipping amount. Shockingly, it came to US$0. Yes, ZERO. I am not sure what's going on but I'll write to CC for a clarification.

Again, I ordered 5 CCs at a cost of US$695 (US$139 each). Shipping was US$105.98 for all 5.

Of the remaining 3, one was reserved by Old Boy. Two remain. Feel free to reserve one first if you wish to. You may cancel the reservation at any time for whatever reason. However, once payment has been made and delivery completed, no refund will be entertained.

I will update as soon as I hear from CC.

At worst, I'll absorb the shipping and do a small community service! GST still applies!

Thanks very much!

mauler...
(Hope I don't get mauled!)

Right, in a hope to clear up the issue with the shipping charge, I wrote the email below to Cotton Carrier:

Hello, Tammy & Brook,

I refer to orders 33 and 86.

For order 33, I selected UPS' Worldwide Expedited service. The charge for that amounted to US$105.98.

A friend alerted me to the substantial shipping charge, upon which I "test" ordered another 5 sets of the Standard Cotton Carriers. In the two test orders, I selected UPS Worldwide Expedited for one and UPS Worldwide Express Saver for the other. I was surprised the shipping amount was US$56.69 and US$0 (zero), respectively.

I also noticed notice that said:

"Please help us help you through our growing pains. If you receive a shipping rate WITHOUT a $ then it is an error. We ask that you click on the Recalculate button or contact us before submitting your order. Thank you for your understanding."

I wish to clarify with you on my order 33 (paid for via PayPal) which is the correct shipping amount, US$105.98 or US$56.69? If there was some mistake in the shipping amount, would it be possible to cancel order 33 with a refund to my PayPal account and I start over again? Or that you refund me the difference in shipping between the correct amount and the one I paid?

As for order 86, please cancel that order. I wasn't able to do that from my account page.

Awaiting your reply.

Thank you very much!

Let's hope I get a favourable reply from them!

I'm impressed. They emailed back a reply within 6 hours:

Hi, Zexun!

See answers below...

Hey there, I've got a few questions on the Cotton Carrier system and I
hope you can answer them.

Firstly, I think this looks to be a great product that will give me
the ability to shoot with two cameras without the need for straps. I
very much prefer to go strapless (other than hand straps).

Question 1: Will the following work when I want to use a tripod often?

(From 'top to bottom' - in relation to the camera itself)
Canon 5D mark 2 (camera)
Camdapter Manfrotto Plus Quick Release Plate + Canon E1 hand strap
(connected to top right strap lug of 5D2 and the lug on the QR plate)
Manfrotto 323 RC2 Quick release adapter
Some sort of 3/8" to 1/4" adapter and possibly a washer around the
adapter for security
Cotton Carrier Camera Insert (Standard)
Cotton Carrier Vest

Yes, it will perfectly work with all these conditions (see attached
diagram). *

Question 2: Is the above setup 'safe'? I'm quite hesitant to go this
way because there are no less than 5 contact points between each of
the elements stated above where all sorts of weird things can happen
to cause my camera to drop to the ground.

Yes. If you go to our FAQ page, and click on question 2, you will see an
image of a small motorbike weighing around 200 lbs. suspended from the
Cotton Carrier.

That being said, we do suggest you wear your neck strap, which will have no
weight on it, until you are completely comfortable with the system. You have
to monitor and ensure you have the camera insert securely tightened to the
base of your camera at all times, and fully slid down the track. Doing this,
the system is being used as it was designed to be, and can hold any weight
of SLR and lens combination. Using the Cotton Carrier over a period of time
will eventually "earn" that level of trust with you for your valuable camera
gear.

Question 3: Has anyone (or have you) experienced sweat dripping onto
the camera for such a setup? I'm thinking that if I'm shooting on a
particularly hot and humid day, I will perspire and sweat from my head
can drip onto the camera in such a position.

The last wedding I did was is 90 degree weather **, and yes, I sweated a lot.
My 5D Mark II has some level of weather protection, and had no issues.
Although I cannot guarantee the weather type sealing of all or any cameras,
I do not feel sweating on them will cause any issues. They all have some
level of seal design to them. Also, this would be the same issue if I was
wearing a neck strap.

Question 4: Would having two cameras on the vest & holster not allow
me to wear a standard backpack?

This shouldn't be an issue. We had one customer come back from a trip
reporting he had done just that; wear his Cotton Carrier and then a
backpack, and feel no real noticeable difference. The second camera carrier
can be removed and slipped on your camera backpack waist belt if it has one.

Lastly, Question 5: Has anyone (or have you) tried using the system
with an external flash unit mounted onto the camera? Does it feel
unwieldy? The idea of having 30cm of gear protruding from my chest
doesn't seem practical. I'm fine with using the Cotton Carrier without
a flash.

Yes, I did this for a wedding with my 5D Mark II with battery grip, a 580 EX
II flash, and a 24 - 70 f2.8 L on the vest. Is that something I preferred to
do? Absolutely not. But the system had zero problems of holding it securely,
and alleviated a ton of hand strain so I was thrilled to have the option.

Any comments would help! Might be selling an R strap to afford this if
I get positive answers.

We do have a full 100% return policy if returned within 14 days after
purchasing and not satisfied for any reason. Personally, I doubt you will
take advantage of this detail. : )

Really impressed with American companies' PR now. Black rapid also gave me a fast reply last time.

Their website mentions about a RRS variant, the setup will be cleaner for both vest and mono/tripod mounting. (May cost more tho')

Right, in a hope to clear up the issue with the shipping charge, I wrote the email below to Cotton Carrier:

Yes, hopefully you get a favorable reply. If you do and the shipping charges decrease, I'm all up for reserving one from you.

From their facebook page. Someone complaining about shipping, and CC replying.

Doug Cockburn
What is with these exorbitant shipping charges across Canada. Why should we Canadians have to pay such high shipping charges to ship across Canada when you could be using Canada parcel post. Or if that's not possible just put your Vancouver addr...ess / phone number back on your "CONTACT US" (so people can actually contact you) & I"ll get my daughter to pick it up a CCC System & she can ship it to me in Ontario.
I'm not a happy camper.

Hi, Doug. There were some glitches in the shipping rates coming up earlier today. Perhaps give it another try. We went to UPS this time around so we could offer a higher level of tracking to our valued customers.

I haven't heard from them yet.

I'll give them a day or two to reply, seeing as it's Sunday their end of the world.

Hang in there with me?

Having said that, I am of the sincere belief that shipping a single piece will still be more expensive than my 5. Also, GST is a given already if it's coming via UPS because courier companies, like FedEx or DHL, ALWAYS include GST.

Let's see what I get. I might copy my email to Mr. Cotton on his FB account.

Thanks!

*UPDATE*

Ok, I posted on CCCS' FB regarding the shipping. Let's see how they respond. Maybe I'll get some money back as they ship out the order? I cross my digits.

Update from CCCS:

"Your rate was correct. The glitch only affected 10 customers in the space of a few minutes. You were one of them for your second order when it showed zero. Everything before and after that has been rock-solid and accurate."

CCCS appears to have corrected whatever ailed their system regarding the shipping. It's still high but I checked. A single order would cost either US$56.59 or US$61.02 to ship here, before applicable GST. That's a sub-total of US$195.59 or US$200.02. Looks like my rate is cheaper in sub-total by at least US$35.39.

Three of my order have been spoken for. Two more available. Since Headshotzx expressed interest, I will hold one for him until I hear otherwise. This means only one more left for now. The rates in my original post apply, subject to GST.

Cash on delivery so no one has to pay anything blindly.

Thanks!

Headshotzx confirmed his interest. Thanks!

One more left. It's cheaper getting one from me since the shipping is lower.

Thanks!

If anyone does not want their holster attachment for a second body, I'm interested in getting it from you.

i wonder why won't they sell that seperately. i would love to have that too....it just feels weird to wear the whole CC thing. reminds me of army days when you have to don on the bullet proof vest.

Darn... I just want the 2nd body holster.

It seems the holster is a better preference and the amour.
