Daylight robbery. Bro, it should not be more than $1000. My dad engaged one small company. Two young chaps came and chop chop the work was done in two and a half days. The final day their boss came. My dad paid him $600 (5-room). This included the length of the cables (CAT 5 and electrical), plus socket points and trunking, and finally plus workmanship and the complexity of the job. Do you have a lot of socket points to install? They go by the number of points. If you also rewire CAT 5, they also count in the number of network points. If the trunkings and wires are going to twist here and there around the house, the cost would go up. Otherwise, running cost is pretty low for straight cabling.

I had run network cables for NCS and some companies while I was doing my part-time degree. Cabling accessories are pretty cheap. The thing that raises the overall cost is the work itself. Running CAT 5 over ceiling boards and over floorboards (mostly server rooms) have a large difference in costs. Don't forget to make sure that they test all the points after their job is done.:)

my parent's 4room flat just finish full reno + wiring.

believe me, must be most no of socket for a 4rm flat in singapore.

about $2k plus.

Maybe the coy do it the artistic way.....:bsmilie:

anyway, some weddings photographers are charging $5k and above, some $500, so see which u prefered, artistic way of wiring or just normal lay on the floor type. Some lay on the floor type also very good u noe?

Thanks bros for all the input! I'm thinking of hiring another electrician for the job, any recommendation??

do consider the quality of the cable as well... if they are using cable that are known to last 20 years and may charge higher a bit then ask yourself why not? compare to those cheap and only can last 5-10 years. If too cheap then you need to be more careful.

kinda true... and make sure they use the correct gauge cables.

10 years ago, it costs abt $1.6k to rewire a 4 room flat. Now should be more ...

Are they using 24K pure gold wires and terminals?

Even with high-quality longer lasting materials, it should not be more than 2k-ish, unless you made a lot of difficult and custom requests.

price should not be the only factor when hiring an electrician.

might like to haggle more as to the break down of the cost. wires aside, is the electrician going to wire the home going in cicles like some cab drivers? wad are the choices of switches that will be used? some brands u tick, u tiak at nite few units away oso can hear. & for that price quoted how many electrical points are included? some give a low upfront quote with bare basic set-up but charge more in the end.

some really nice switches so fancy i need to wash my hands thoroughly before flicking the switch!

But consumers should always discuss arrangements THORUOGHLY first right, regardless of the price?

I really doubt that they will be giving us the really high end stuff like you mentioned. What I'm looking for is basic rewiring of the existing electrical wires as they have been used for 30 years, plus a few more additional wall sockets. What I was quoted is that its gonna be more than $3000 to do it........ (heartpain!!!)

Do the govt way of procurement.

Get 3 quotes and give the job to the one that gives best value for money ie ..(not necessarily the cheapest though)

Hahaha! I'm not as big as the garment! Just hope to get some brothers' recommendation to consider.......

make sure they are licensed electrical contractor. yes, costs depend on no. of socket points you want.

i dunno, must ask TS. the oni quotation worth their salt is an quotation on-site.

agree that unlikely you will be given highend accessories like those links. some homes with wires hidden inside walls will cost more to rewire (i think:embrass:). when my family renovated 2 years back, prices of copper already went up by huge fractions. a few more sockets is not just spare change leh.

take in account electrical work alone vs doing new home 100% sure price different. as the electrician have to do things with more care = slower = time lost = less income for electrician. if anything damage, both party :(. for empty home? just whack oni loh, how noisey & dusty oso nevermind.

sssh.... I did the wiring myself. Less than $500 for the material but a lot of sweat. $200 for the labour and another $500 profit. It should be less tha $2000 including testing etc.

Thanks Yappy! Any recommendations, feel free to pm me! Thanks! :)

rewiring costs for aircon (for certain homes) & water heater costs more than normal 220-240V wall outlets.

dun forget GST! :bsmilie:
