hi i was wondering how much it would cost me if i was to send my camera for inspection/cleaning? it's a newly, and cheaply-acquired yashica electro mg1. my lens looks fine, but my viewfinder looks pretty grimy, so i was wondering would it cost me a lot to send it for cleaning? battery compartment is fine, just the film compartments are dusty. also, how long will it take..?

thanks! :]

I not too sure whether this help.. I just sent my Canon A1 film camera to the camera hospital last week... to have everything clean and shutter adjustment and tunning.. for about $220....

My friend's Yashica (not too sure what model but is a 1950s model as comfirmed by the shop owner) also went for cleaning and tunning which cost about $160...

they charge by the parts clean or change... it take about one week..because I can see that he got alot of camera to repair... mostly oldies camera...

WHOA. that's expensive. ok new to this, so over 100bucks is defintiely expensive for me. and mine doesnt even seem to need this much work!! maybe i'll just stick to my slightly dusty viewfinder for now.. :(

if the image produce by the camera still good.. I think you better keep the money till the camer really faulty...

mine got mould, shutter problem, view finder dusty anso, it take some photos with light leakages... that why it better for me to do a overhaul to my Canon A1

If you use your camera often, why not give it an overhaul? You'll notice the difference.

an alternative to do some research on the net and see if someone has instructions on how you can strip and clean it yourself. For some simple old cameras, it's not too tough.

I had my Yashica Minister III (1960's model) fixed up at the Camera Hospital for $150. It had fungus, probably was missing light seals, and sentimental value, so I thought it was worth it.

You can also check this website http://www.yashica-guy.com/. He has some instructions on how to repair Electros, but not sure if it'll address your particular problem.

hi guys.....a young newbie on photography here....i dug out a same Yashica Mg-1 a few days back.... the condition's really bad, mould in every corner of the camera....wondering if its' possible to fix it, and whether this camera takes good pictures?

thanks....:)

i can get it done at the same amount but in RM currency! ;) in fact sometimes my cameras were CLA-ed at even lower price, depends on situation.

Where do you get it done? Always glad to find cheap and good places.

by an uncle in KL. he used to have a camera shop but i guess his location's not that ideal anymore and in the end he closed it and now repairing only on part time basis upon phone call.
