convert old VHS movies to PC with tape player

Hi everyone. I hope you can help me configure my Philips VHS tape recorder, so I can play my VHS tapes and convert the movies in them to digital movies using the windows movie maker in windows XP.

Can I connect the VHS output to my Sony digital Hi8 camcorder, which has a conversion setting, and connect from the Sony cam to the PC by firewrie. I used the Sony digital Camcorder to convert all my old non digital Hi8 movies to digital this method to convert format.

Need your help as far as hardware and sofware required for this to be done. Getting the tapes converted outside is expensive which I cannot afford. Regards

yes you can do that from VHS to videocam (digitize) then videocam(thru firewire) to pc by software capturing (note: big file).
