They worked in the construction industry to curb the shortage of manpower. Many stayed and many became the supervisors of the the industry. Those who could not take the tough routine dropped out after serving their due.

But I think the unit's name is diluted. It did contribute to the construction industry and at the same time you serve NS. Win win situation.
