yup... giving money is the easy way out... most singaporean don't do volunteering work (those forced to do flag days or earned CCA points also not counted!). I tried to do some volunteering in area that i enjoyed but to no avail and also no time. Must try harder....

NKF has 189m in reserves which supposedly can last them 2-3 years as they claim they need about 60-70m a year. NCSS has about 157m and can last them a couple of years as well. In my opinion, the reserves are not excessive. Imagine if economic crisis hits us for 2-3 years, the reserves will definitely diminished by a fair bit.

In fact under NCSS's guideline (they are the controlling body of most orgs), reserves can be up to 5 years hence not excessive.

They claim but where is the figure??? Anyway, I bet that a lot of ppl already start to stop donating to them and hope NKF really wake up this time.

Something is not right when a charitable organisation has a fleet of Mercs at its disposal while companies far bigger than it here in Singapore do not. Not that kind of number, and definitely not Mercs.

Durai appears to have a tendency to gloss over details, such as his first class travel, his paid directorships, the number of patients treated by NKF and the number of years the NKF can sustain without donations. I honestly can't see how NKF can refute this after what he acknowledged yesterday. NKF can only contain the damage by highlighting how patients will be affected to convince people to continue to donate, but this argument will be weak given their reserves.

I've withdrawn my monthly donation. NKF's reserves will ensure that we won't hurt any kidney patient in the short term. I've every intention of restoring the contribution, but only after NKF takes a serious relook at its management.

You can looked at their expenses and have a rough gauge. I am sure they do spend on the patients though it may not be as much as required. Read that about 52 cents out of a dollar goes direct to patient treatment. Prob a breakdown will be like:
0.52 - treatment
0.20 - reserves
0.15 - staff costs
0.13 - other exps

They need to utilise 80% on patients or related exp in order to maintain the IPC and tax-exempt status. This is a common requirement for IPC. I knew it well as i used to audit quite a few IPCs....

Just saw a shark pic which was killed by a man. My mum always ask me, why don't those lions, tiger etc... in the wild be killed as they kill other animal for food. I told her that if no cannibel (correct?), the goats, deers etc... will eat up all the grass in the end.

From that, NKF look like a cannibel. Without them, kidney patients will suffer more but with them ard, they might hurt other in one way or another. Therefore, NKF is good or bad, you decide. When they help u to maintain someone health, they are good but when they misuse the $ which you donate, they are bad.

This world really confusing. :faint:

I called for SENSATIVITY because the fellow posted NO KIDNEY FOUNDATION, just imagine what a NKF or any kidney patient happens to see this thread. It is no laughing matters... SImilar, there's no need to call it National Kelong Foundation. All these are uncalled for.

As for the S$240/treatment etc, based on my limited knowledge, level of subsidies depends on affordability. If you are a high income earner of > S$5k (for example only), you prob pays 80%, if you earn 2k, you prob pay 20%.

huh? you're funny..

We donate our money to help patients.. at the end the money gone somewhere else instead of the original purpose..

Look at the fact.. out of the 30mil spent, 21mil is from patients' pocket, and NKF only pay 7mil. Is the treatment not even heavily subsidized, what free healthcare you're talking about?

Like most healthcare system, nothing will be given free and for good reasons. YOu do not want a situation whereby people do not worry about their health as they know any treatment is zero-cost to them. Thats why govt have medisheild etc when they can jolly-well give you free treatment at poly-clinics and hospitals.

You are responsible for your own life. Thats why people buy insurance, exercise, eat well and quit smoking etc.

Kidney failure can due to many reason beyond control and nobody want their kidney to fail, if you want.. I can sponsor your treatment. Free healthcare treatment!! You want?

If 52 cents can go to the patient, in the end, where does the bonus come from? I heard that 6 months bonus for staff! No wonder CEO 1 yr bonus. I bet you also know that they fly in first class, stay in 5 stars etc..., right? Someone do mention that they make use of the patient to get donation. We pity those patient and that is why we donated but NKF just misuse of this $. No point posting here, let's wait and see what will happen next ;)

its the same eveywhere, top squeeze the juice , tell me wat could be left for the lower rank

typical scenario will be:
boss 2 close colleagues :
" lets have a good bonus this year but there is not much to share around, so i will reward u based on wat u save from paying out to staff, okie "

" eg the more u save , the higher your bonus "

hence new employee appraisal terms starts to pop out
eg
KPIs la
AOI
Personal Career Growth Chart

then when staff cannot full fill the criterias ,
too bad , u got not bonus

No one wish contract Kidney failure or problems.
It's "destiny" or fate, some may call it.
I know of some people where they are healthy, suddenly
discover they contract kidney problems.

We as Singaporean want help the unfortunate.
But with this incident... alas... I'm shock, totally shock.

Does "he" require any Dialisys?

I think I pity the patients. They are the "real" victims.

It feels like the Tsunami donations, where there is lots of
"charity" organisations coming out to ask for donations.??

Why?

No comment on the first part since I assume it was not meant for me. But in your example, is it true that only those who earn $2000 (total for a family) can get subsidy? If that is the case, between $1 and $2K is not really much in terms of affordability. If they do subsidize high income earner then I'm wrong on this issue.

For the last 2 paragraph... I agree we are responsible for our health but if I'm not wrong, kidney failure is not something that happens due to lack of exercise or alcohol/tobacco abuse. Anyway, my main point is the comparison of the $240 against the $25K bonus. If the $25K is really disposable, it could have helped a lot of people, which was the main intention of the donor in the first place.

And he already admitted there was a lot of mistakes in the disclosure of the figures... no of patients, annual expenses, etc... so bottom line is... what can we believe?

yup...What she said is not wrong...

on the note of audit

i guess the audit result will just be the normal ,
financial statement , true n fair view of the corporation

audit is not to find fraud , audit is perform work where on course of it discovers fraud , in this case there is no fraud ,
its just a moral responsibility on wat constitutes a fair an equitable compensation to wat is the true worth for the work performed.
