One thing for sure, I pity those patient. Hope someone who can truely organise a fund raising for them and use the $ wisely. Really hope some organisation (trusted ones) could step up and do so. Close down NKF for GOOD! :angry:

Not sure if anyone noticed... it's not really fair to compare NKF & KDF. Yes, their cause is similar but i don;t think KDF have many dialysis centres? Also, in terms of size, it's like comparing SBS vs small private bus operator. KDF only have 20 staffs earning average of abt 2400... Highest position is GM. Their size a bit too small.

I agree with you, cannot compare. Do your own research on which charitable organisation is worth your support. Especially the people running it... is it up to your standard (integrity/character/trustworthiness etc)

To most of us, giving money is the easy part. But who wants to spare more effort to ensure the money is well manage for it's intended purpose? (be it Kidney / cancer / poor children in africa etc)

Just voicing out... I'm asking myself how much do I care really about fellow human being in need.....

Reserves can last about 4 years if patients do not pay anything. 30 years if patients pay current subsidy.

This is reserve alone... $300K annual bonus will still go a long way... and don't you think this issue is isolated to one man? I think there are more than meets the eye that's why NKF retracted the lawsuit so quickly. Of course, this is just my opinion and not factual.

Nah, as NKF says, 3 to 4 years only mah. It will be true on what NKF said as with high bonus and benefits to staffs, that amount could be gone in no time. Esp they brought expensive gift for themself (ESPN fav D2X and a few VR lens ;p )

Feel shame to have this kind of things to happen down here. But after sometime, this thing will die off, ppl will start donate AGAIN! Then those NKF ppl will enjoy what they use to be and the history of this, wouldn't be appearing AGAIN.

As I said before, if this kind of things happened in oversea, NKF wouldn't be there now. Riot will force it to close down or another organisation will take over. But sg too small to have this kind of things to be happen and the citizen, just sign petition or stop donation only. Isn't that too late and NKF having so many $ in reserve.

I bet this kind of case last only for a month and another story will cover this one over. Whatever happened, let it be. Let's stop donating to NKF and help those who really need. Let's wait and see how NKF can last but I think it will be forever with their prizes and greedy ppl ard. Let's hope for the best to come

It depends on the treatment. There is one patient who were interviewed in The New Paper. Her parents earn $1800. She is paying $240 out of $1700+. She is appreciative of the help but was dismayed when she found out about the bonus because her family still need to borrow money to pay for the $240 but is now afraid of losing the subsidy. I think the reserve should be able to cover that if worst comes to worst.

I called for SENSATIVITY because the fellow posted NO KIDNEY FOUNDATION, just imagine what a NKF or any kidney patient happens to see this thread. It is no laughing matters... SImilar, there's no need to call it National Kelong Foundation. All these are uncalled for.

As for the S$240/treatment etc, based on my limited knowledge, level of subsidies depends on affordability. If you are a high income earner of > S$5k (for example only), you prob pays 80%, if you earn 2k, you prob pay 20%.

Like most healthcare system, nothing will be given free and for good reasons. YOu do not want a situation whereby people do not worry about their health as they know any treatment is zero-cost to them. Thats why govt have medisheild etc when they can jolly-well give you free treatment at poly-clinics and hospitals.

You are responsible for your own life. Thats why people buy insurance, exercise, eat well and quit smoking etc.

NKF has 189m in reserves which supposedly can last them 2-3 years as they claim they need about 60-70m a year. NCSS has about 157m and can last them a couple of years as well. In my opinion, the reserves are not excessive. Imagine if economic crisis hits us for 2-3 years, the reserves will definitely diminished by a fair bit.

In fact under NCSS's guideline (they are the controlling body of most orgs), reserves can be up to 5 years hence not excessive.
