cmon, you think all those MDs and GMs from big companies will "volunteer" their extremely expensive time to be board members for nothing. They obviously get large directors' fees as well. The guy who was sued in 1998 by NKF, he said that the board of directors also flew first-class. Surely you don't think Durai can get away with these excesses if the Board weren't so well paid at the same time?

Yes...there will be people who acted as director (in this case i think is board of governors) for free... Of course, in the course of business, they may fly business/first class etc... that i don't know.

It may not be a conscientious effort to hide lah... Accounting standards sometimes makes it difficult to see the whole pic. If you have the full financial statements, usually a full disclousre of total staff costs is required (for listed companies) but not sure if it applies for Charities... I don't think so as i audited quite a few before....

Well ... if NKF's supposed charity organisation is a biz modal like temasek holdings , I got nothing to say liao ...Mrs Lee is not using my money so I wouldn't care how much she earns , but if durai/NKF BOD is using public's money aka yours and mine $$ to fund his perks, then I think the public has the right to know.

Well... the govt also argued that Temasek is not a commercial vehicle but rather one acting on behalf of govt so no need to disclose until it comes under critism over deals like Suzhou Insutrial estate etc...

The reality is that all non-profit organisations are ran like commercial enterprises these days except for few like say the Getty Foundation etc where source of funding are internal.

This is will be the true test of where their motivations lie - to indeed provide care for kidney patients, or to use such patients as an excuse to get donations which can be skimmed off to pad their own pockets.

Yup, it's up to the public. I prefer to look at it as necessary evil... The main thing is the cost must be justified and contained. If it is, it's a necessary evil... No free lunch in this world.

P/S: The NKF Cancer Fund is the most ridiculous thing that can ever happen. Do we not already have the Singapore Cancer Society? Do we need "competition"?

NKF has been very successful recently. The BEST tactic I think was having "free" health screening and then asking you to sign up for a monthly donation. This I think amounts to quite a lot of money. It actually made the whole charity pie bigger as many people like me who would not have donated, now donates every month.

I'd rather forgo the 'free health screening' crap and the money be better used for Kidney Paitents.

The CEO of NKF should be paid well but how well? Same for the minister's pay. very sensitive one....

Correction of thought.

CEO of entity, well-paid due to his efforts and direction to push the organisation in a revenue and profit generating way.

Minister of country, well-paid to make him run a country, to manage the lives of over 4 million ppl, to resist the temptation of selling first-hand or classified information and betray his own country, his own ppl and society.

It is interesting to note that in all the previous 7 pages of ranting, the people most affected or know of those most affect, i.e. the kidney patients, have not posted their experiences with NKF when approaching them for funds for their loved ones. Maybe there are none here.

But if there was, what was it like? Were they denied any funding if truly in need? Perhaps someone could share this experience.

I wonder how they feel reading the past 7 pages on the threats to stop donating, regardless if they still get funds or not, since the rant was directed to both NKF and their CEO. The only consolation, perhaps, is that if they, or someone they know, were kidney patients, WE would all give directly to that person, right? Afterall, there is minimum or no bonuses to pay.

They never called me ever since the day I told the lady, "Its not I don't want to help, but I'm in financial trouble now. Who is going to help me so I can help others?"

Sorry about your sis, man :cry: My relative, too had kidney failure, but as a family, we gave them enough to support. She died peacefully. Thanks for sharing.

Don't know about you guys, but I'm certainly eager to see how the public reacts to donation calls at the next NKF show. :think:

I guess frm the previous shows records of apprx $10m for each show, we're seeing like juz $5m for 2 shows now?

My heart was hoping that they prolly wun generate more den $3m. Unfortunately, with the stupid old trick of putting up the 1-call = 5-call number, flashing on BIG BIG, I think lotsa ppl who called with the intention to make juz 1 call ended up making 5 calls.

Dumb but effective trick. Gotta take my hat off 'em.
