My first question would be why? For administrations?
My second question would be, why do we need so many different organisation with different administrations then? Create jobs?

yes, a good part goes to administration, to publicity and media (this costs alot, from the cost of creating broucheres and flyers, to the media buy involved in various media outlets such as television, radio, magazines)
A lot of charities have to fight for attention in a media saturated society.
I have to say I am not a charitable person, I hate donating to charities.

Ideally, there would be only one charity organisation in a country that would distribute money evenly to people who need the help, and would be run solely by volunteers without pay, but this isn't going to happen.

As such, the cost of producing an NKF show and the amount of airtime cost involved is tremendous. I'm not surprised only a small part goes to the people in need. on the bright side even the small percentage of a big sum of money is still a pretty big sum of money

I think most of us would agree/feel that kidney patients are indeed benefiting from NKF's numerous programs.. if i start a similar charity org, get 100mil in donations and use 10mil to help my kidney patients for eg, of course we cannot deny that some help will be rendered to the unfortunate families.

however i think the issue here is that as a donor to any charity org, we would want as much of our donations to reach the needy. If 10mil can help the patients so much as it is already, imagine would could have been done if they had channeled 60mil or more to them!

Just one question: do all the funds of NKF come purely frm donations or do they take some of the money for investment? I'm asking this bec i feel that if this CEO does make use of some of our donations, and generates more money from it through whatever investment means etc, then perhaps having high bonuses may not be too sinful (although 12 months is disgusting). However if all the money that NKF has is only from donations, then it's real sad...

Anyway, few months down the road, this will happen again. Stay tuned.

Not true. I don't think its legal to use donated monies for further investments.

Else the insurance companies will be the first doing these.... did I just create a business idea? LoL

well, i look at it this way. the public only has that much amount to donate every year. if a charitable organisation takes 50% of that and only 10% goes to the needies, and considering the remaining 50% of the pie goes to more efficient charities giving 70% back to the needies, in total all the needies took 40% of whatever the public can donate. what happens to the remaining 60%? administration? big shows? CEO pay? can we be more efficient?

Let put it this way, if the Media company is charging airtime, and telco company charging administrations, why are the representatives from these companies preaching the others to have a heart? Ironic?

Erm I believe insurance companies use your policy $ to invest.

Yup, but you hit my point - motivation.

Durai was not only drawing a high salary (which I don't care if he really deserves it, or earned it, or whatever) or a high bonus (I confess, I do envy this), he was sueing people who commented that he was spending out of his entitlement. He is entitled to second-class air tickets, but he used the most expensive second class ticket as a base, then pays for the cheaper first-class ticket. This is also the judge's judgement. His motivation is to gain for himself - and I hope that is not NKF's idea. With a leader of such motivation, surely NKF is steered towards self-centeredness (amassing large fortunes), not something we expect out of a charity. When he was questioned, he says that his pay is private, not quite the transparency that NKF claims.

I have mentioned that the 20 staff of KDF draws about $1600/mth. NKF's 996 staff draws an average of about $1500/mth according to their report, and that's quite standard. Obviously, the top is being paid very well, probably representative of a business, not necessarily for a charity.
Based on what was said in The New Paper and Today... it seems that contractually, he is entitled to fly SIA business class (or its equivalents in terms of fare). As such, you can argue that if he flew by MAS 1st class but cost less than SIA business class, he is in fact saving for the organisation.

However, if the contracts states that he can only fly by business class, then which airlines he chooses will be subject to scrutiny again.

All these are problems to be resolved by the BOD of NKF. They shd have thought of it before they Oked his contract.

I read that she left the courts half way during the trail yesterday.

Perhaps she too was disappointed and surprised ?

yes she left the courts halfway as reported in the papers, I think ( better add that in case I'm wrong and they sue me ). And anyone notice that the VIP for last Sunday Night's event is not Mrs Goh, their patron? It is Mrs Amy Koh another MP.

I am looking for efficiency because ITS MY MONEY! If efficiency could be improved, more patient will receive larger percentage of the donation dollars. That' what I call results.

I am okay with the corporate style of running the Charitable Organisation but tell me a CEO of any company receiving a 12 months bonus this few year?? I don't mind a certain "hard-nose business attitude" in a crusade about educating the public on kidney problems and gathering funds for helping the patients but 12 month bonus of 25k a month??? *Sign~~*

Sorry I just don't have your faith that one letter will change anything, nothing less than a public outcry.
Not many CEO gets 12 mths bonus but if you notice carefully, their overall package is usually more than double their basic salary. This is due to things like share options, bonuses etc. In this case, no share option etc available.

Do not let this incident influence you. If you think NKF is a worthwhile cause, just go ahead and donate.

Luckily you did not donate through your debit/credit card. One of my friend did donate using this way. Guest what! After his card has expired, it stops of course. When his new card arrived, it starts all over again?! How the hell they know his new debit/credit card number?  :nono:
