Nikon was not joking when they said the new 35 f1.8 exceeds the performance of the 35 f2. Check out the samples from dpreview, especially the one of a crane and building taken at f1.8 -- it is very impressive. Sharp all the way to the corners. Bokeh and colours are very nice (kiwi fruit looks almost edible). Good job Nikon!

Ok. Me hooked and going to buy one ASAP as long as it is around $400 price. :cheergal:

Too bad Nikon didn't include my fav distance markers. GAH.
Now waiting for Nikon to produce a 18mm f/1.4 or 18mm f/1.8 for DX (28mm f/1.4 FX) with distance scale

will prolly be getting this before going to bangkok if its really below $400...any shops in SG know when will it go on sale?

any ideal launch date and price in singapore? I hope it will be less then S$400

Ehh why $400

$400 might as well buy from US at USD199!

heard from some local shops it will be here in the 1st week of march. But from few different shops they have some conflicting estimated prices cause some follow USD some follow the english pounds which is around $300+ and $500+ respectively?

More practical to follow USD I guess, since UK prices will often include VAT or are already priced higher due to their higher customs taxes for electronics...

looks like i have to wait 1 more year for the price to drop...:bheart:

i hope follow USD too...but knowing new products they prolly mark up abit...USD199 -> SGD 305.

Include shipping, mark up, etc. I guess its fair to price at around $400? Just my lousy speculation

Since it is made somewhere in Asia (Japan, Thailand or China, etc), isn't it reasonable to assume that shipping cost to S'pore should be a lot less than that to the US? For some other lenses, price in the US (eg, quoted by B&H) is usually only slightly lower than that charged by many shops in S'pore. So, for the 35 DX, no reason not to expect retail price here to be very close to S$300, i think. Anything close to $400, i will think twice as it gets very close to the 35/2, which is very good and usable in FX mode as well.

hopefully you are right! $300 would be a very very nice price.

Knowing Nikon SG, I'm guessing the RRP will be $499 and the street price around $370 :(

Last I checked, the Nikon 35mm f2D sells for US$360 and the 50mm f1.4D for US$340 (local warranty) at B&H. These would translate to about S$540 and S$510 resp. These prices are about the same as those quoted by shops here.

So the US$199 suggested retail price = S$300 (altho it may be a bit more than that initially). If Nikon wants to charge more here, wait, don't rush -- like the COE, prices will come down after a while.

i can't wait to get this as my first prime! :D

will it be cheaper or more expensive in Japan? (i may be going there in April)
Do we need to pay more for international warranty if it's purchased there?

Local warranty applies only to body, all lenses sold have international warranty.
