This shall be the 1st DX prime right? Prefer it to be f/1.4

For the record, the first DX prime was the 10.5mm f/2.8 fisheye.

Not taking anything away from Nikon, this release shows that there are still supporting the DX format ... probably their cash cow

aw man this is my reason to get a d40
and maybe a d700 when i can get the toto numbers right.

always wanted to get the sigma30f1.4, maybe i'll just get this instead.
f1.8 is super if i can get it for 300sgd.

looks like a must buy for DX users, esp D40/D60 users. nikon's answer to sigma's 30mmf1.4 DC HSM?

anyway, i'm still waiting / dreaming for the AF-S 35mm f/1.4G... ;)

Please, Ni Gong, do not come up with the 30mm / 35mm F1.2... Please spare a thought for my pocket!

Don't worry... Nikon just announced that it will layoff 800 workers and scale back the construction of a new plant. Doesn't look like they are in the mood to make expensive f1.4 lenses that many of us cannot afford.

About the MTF, it would be interesting to see how a not-so-good MTF FF lens compares with better MTF DX lens on a D300... my hunch is that the FF 35/2 will give better corners :) Anyway, this is making life too complicated.

I was wondering, like how some of us have, on why Nikon would make a DX prime when cameras would likely be FX in the future. Thinking about it, I now think this is actually a good strategy.

As technology improves, new technology shifts older technology downward. For example, the Sigma DP1 has a bigger sensor than most PnS cameras. I believe Nikon is targeting that market of people moving from a PnS to a DSLR. As prices of entry level DSLRs drop, more people are likely to make the shift, and when they do, there should be a base of lenses and accesories for them. The DX format in the future would likely be like PnS usage today.

Today, I can almost safely say that every household has a digital camera, be it in their phone, a PnS, prosumer PnS, or DSLR. 10 years ago, this were not so. There is a large market to tap on.

In fact, with the release of the 35mm DX lens, it now becomes more appealing to get a D60. I can also now tell one of my friends to get this lens to couple with the D40x.

Yeah.. maybe 35F2 price will come down.. hmm.... But I was hoping it was a 35F1.4. haha

maybe soon...? going by the amount of interest for it. might not be a remote possibility.

Oh man, I just realised something. US$200 and no focus distance marks.

This looks to be a very interesting lens.

as long as this toy is in the $300-$350 region market price at first launch, gonna hoot it, well, its definitely comparable to sigma 30 f1.4 :)

I concur, it does not make sense to make a DX 35mm lens only, 10 years down the line, will we still be able to use the DX lens on FX cameras ?

will wait for more user report then decide whether to get one or not.:)

Nikon has signalled with the Nikon 50mm f1.4G that primes for FX should be on their agenda. I don't think we have long to wait before they come up with ONE wide-angle prime announced together with A medium telephoto (AFS).
