Condo Private Lifts - Good or Bad

for health and safety reasons, I hope it damn well come with a flight of stairs. or two! ;p

I live in such a place, and honestly I'm not that crazy about it, because when the lift door opens, if you are taking the lift with neighbors who live upstairs and downstairs, everybody can look right into your house. Can get quite awkward.

And if some nut who doesn't live there follows you, he can easily step right into your house with you.

I still prefer the traditional common lift, personally.

must always have - what happen if there is a fire and electrical shutdown?

Fire escape staircases are mandatory in buildings. In some cases, firemen lift are also provided but these will come with their own back up electrical power and will be compartmentalised to prevent fire from spreading into them.

Have you ever come across buildings more then 1 storey that doesn't have any staircases?

i agree.. that's why i thought this type of private lift is only for those living at the penthouse (highest floor) so no one will be with you in the lift by time it reaches your floor.

Yah...that was one of the concerns brought up. So I was just wondering if it is really a big deal or not?

But it does appear to be a significant thing. Pretty awkward especially if someone is in the house and not appropriately dressed and the lift door opens and there are strangers in there.

But what about the lift door opening at the wrong floor or something like that? Or naughty kids playing with the buttons? Is there a theoretical method where it can be defeated and the lift will open into someone else's apartment when they are not supposed to?
