Some condos now have private lifts as a feature where the lift brings you straight into your apartment or condominium. For those who have lived or are living in such condominiums, what are your thoughts about these private lifts? Is it really a good thing or are there bad things associated with it? Any opinions or comments appreciated. Thanks.

most would require you to swipe a card before the door opens up at your place anyway. I don't see what's so bad about it.

and besides, it's really REALLY convenient. I miss having that feature now. :(

(+) nobody can come and annoy you as access is restricted. nobody can anyhow drop in and you can hide, switch off mobile phone and declare you are missing in some area where it is out of range for mobile phone transmission. Just make sure you dont login to facebook or twitter or surf clubsnap. LOL
(-) say you forget to bring the secure card out (you left it at home) or worse still, you lose it, and you are outside, nobody is at home (or you live alone) and it was 1 AM, you are outside, drunk and really need to go to the toilet ... oh well.

There are always security guards who can help you out... i'm sure they must have seen you tons of times...

THanks...so it does look like there are virtually no bad points about private lifts? What about security concerns? Or lift breakdowns? Any issues with these?

Another alternative is the management office can settle it!:)

Security wise shouldn't be a problem as the lift will onli operate via Access card without it the lift dun even move!

There should be a common lift or fireman's lift in case of breakdown. :)

being able to walk straight into the house when carrying a load of items.

being able to walk straight into the house when I'm off my face, inebriated.

being able to walk straight into the house when I'm bringing somebody back home, and impressing them.

being able to walk straight into the house without having to go through the inconveniences of walking down long narrow hallways, or having guest/s walk down said walkways, and possibly getting lost.

I admit, it's just a big feel good factor, but the first two points were very valid.

how about lift maintenance?bi-monthly, quarterly, annually? do they need to go into your apartment?

don't see why they would need to go into your apartment. unless your call button is spoilt.

during my short stay at this said location, no such problems.

Actually I have viewed one condo in Lakeside which has this feature. Cannot remember the name but it is near a temple. There is a lift door and there is flat door, so you can still lock the flat door if you want.

IIRC lift maintenance is in the lift shaft on the roof of the car or motor room unless ur door cant open if not will not go into ur house!:)

i've been to condo with lift access a few times.

during fire breakout, all lifts will home to the ground floor, how do tenant escape?

even if it's still servicing, which unit does it serve first..of first come first serve / unit with fire?
