Con Shop: Worldwide Cameras @ Peninsula

I think it's not new that Worldwide Cameras is a blacklisted shop. Unfortunately, my friend did not do her research and got conned very badly. So this is a warning for everyone here. Poor her, she's only 16 yrs old and there goes her pocket money.

Basically, she was looking for a Canon 50mm f1.8, the shopkeeper told her it's out of stock and recommended a GroBartig 0.45x wide angle converter, which is totally not related to what she's looking for. Being a soft spoken girl, she relented and paid $175 for it. The shopkeeper ask her to get two filters for $70. Normal filters, grossly overcharged.

So the next day she told me she thinks she got conned. I went down to the shop to ask for the price of the converter lens. He quoted me $165. Then I bargained and the price went down to $75 straight away! I then took out the lens my friend bought and he was taken aback and turned very hostile, shouting at me. The other shopkeeper said that they can charge customers any amount, just like coca cola can be sold at different prices everywhere. I'm like, please your shop is not a 5-star hotel dude.

But conclusion of the matter, we didn't get a refund of any sort. I tried to explain that the girl is only 16 years old, have some pity. But well, this kind of people seriously have no heart and integrity.

So please do your research next time, and DONT EVER go to this shop.

Yah lor. Sian liao. Ask them to not to trust any salesman, but still don't want to listen.

Poor girl but you would think that since money is so hard for her to save, she would have at least did some research before spending it on anything.

Being a young girl of her age, i wouldn't think she is aware of such practices. Think of it another way, these people who con people of their hard earned money will one day get conned by someone else one day. Who knows, some PRC chick might clean out their bank in future. What goes around, comes around.

Their retribution is already in force. They use to occupied quite a big shop, now a much smaller shop - due to slow sales? very soon the shop will close for good, then those lau ah beng salesman can go eat ****.

When I was a young boy, I worked very hard over my holiday at Times the bookshop, making something like $4 or $5 per hour. After saving enough, I went to Lucky Plaza to buy a walkman. I wanted a certain AIWA model, but the salesman recommended me a 'better' model and gave me a 'special price' for it. I was grossly conned and felt so bad, I could not use the walkman. It was a painful lesson I remember till today. I'm usually a very good natured person, but such stories still make my blood boil. ;(

How about the owner of Bally Photo opening another shop called SLR Revo? Someone did a search and found that they have the same shareholders. Maybe this Worldwide did the same? Lots of people say they will buy at SLR Revo because their price and service are good. They will ignore the fundamental wrong that is done to others as long as it does not happen to them.

So, they can have one chop shop for the tourist, housewives, and young girls, and one legit shop to cater to the people who do their research.

I recognise this shop cause I went to get something for my powershot S3 IS and true enough they quoted different prices cause I ask my friends to follow up on the price on that day. Luckily I didnt buy cause they quoted my frd $300 and me $399 for some stupid wide lens + converter. Anyway I did my homework and got the 60D at CP.

Really pity the girl. Just treat this as a lesson and move on. Anyway most of us did go through this process and learnt our lesson. Just don't make the same mistake again.:D

So sorry to hear about your friend. Eventhough I've read a lot of threads about such things, but somehow, the injustice and the lack of compassion by people like these makes me feel angry... but what they sow, they will one day reap... and what goes around comes around...

I pity the girl, at the same time feel that she deserve it. Since she know there's someone to refer to (TS), she can ask before going into any shop. Why only look for help when she's being conned?

Hope she learn her lesson.

I believe she will learn and grow. This is life path....some time make mistakes and do better next time...

feel sad cos this is really kena conned.

Some young are like dat though not really conned.

After telling them not to get from big electronics shops cos they can get cheaper yet the same items plus freebies from our trusted shops, but eventually, they get their CAM from those big shops.

Dunno must one be angry or just forget abt the whole issue and live peacefully.

We should display those Con shops and those staff in our clupsnap members. Otherwise those CON SHOPS will become more bolder and bolder.

Since this is the reasons for forgiving, let start a dive for collection some money to give back to the girl. What is her blank account number so we can start the balls rowing.

Suggest to start a sticky thread on these Black shops...

No use.Cos people will still get chopped and realise that there is clubsnap where they can warn people about the shop that chopped them...

No doubt a painful experience .. But if you think about it ... $100+ for a life long lesson ... not too expensive ..

Just passed by the shop a couple of days ago and saw a middle age guy standing outside trying to entice potential "Ang Mo" customers into some gd deals from their shop.
Surprisingly such shops still can survive by doing this kind of 1 time business(as customers will not return bk to them).
