I would believe that the IS in Canon lenses is an energy guzzler as it is possible to feel and hear it in action from the hum and the buzzing of something spinning inside. The OIS in Panasonic cameras and the Leica lens is absolutely silent and is likely to be more energy efficient.One of my bros uses a 70-200mm L IS, and according to him, IS is an energy guzzler!
Then again, people can be so funny. When a camera system don't have IS, they would deem it to be a disadvantage but when they introduce IS, they worry that it would drain the battery. :dunno:
