I have lost 3 folders in recent weeks while re-naming the folders on the Compactdrive (PDX 7 the older version), using my powerbook. The 3 folders just disappeared as I finished renaming the them. Luckily I have backups on my iPhoto library in the first 2 folders, but the third one was completely gone. Anyone know what causes this?

I've encountered this problem as well.

Just do not try to manually rename / renumber the folders. I also had backups of my photos.

....never had this problem until the firmware was upgraded.....must be some bugs I guess.

From my personal experience, some external storage device has this problem. It's sometimes not compatible with certain external HDD FAT (file allocation table)

If the third folder is important to you, DO NOT write more files to your compactdrive. This will make your files in '3rd folder' irrecoverable. The file should still be sitting in the HDD, only the directory structure is damaged. Should you copy more files to your compactdrive after the renaming, the new files may overwrite the space taken up by the files in your 3rd folder.

Lastly, get a hard disk utility software to recover the files lost. There is quite a handful of software in the market, like Norton Disk Doctor, etc.

:)

Thanks for the advice, PQ23, the third folder is not that important, it contains pictures taken by my son who's picking up photography, the first two was important,...luckily got backup.
