Compact Camera suitable for IR Conversion with no Hot Spot Issues

Hi,

I'm thinking of converting a compact camera for IR, so that it's easier to carry around when travelling overseas.
Anyone has any recommendations?

Thanks!

I do infrared conversions as part of my job, mostly on Canon and Nikon products.

I have not encountered any Canon PowerShot and Nikon CoolPix cameras that will exhibit hotspots after conversion. I know with full certainty: PowerShot SX100IS, SX110IS, SX120IS, SX130IS, SX150IS, S95, S100, G9, G11, G12. The SX100 - SX150 cameras and G series are quite easy to convert, and I have done them to death. Personally I think the best among the SX130IS is the best model with the best balance between megapixel count and noise performance.

I do know that Panasonic Lumix LX3 will have hotspots even after conversion because I have done one myself. I suspect the same will happen with Lumix LX5 and LX7 because the lenses have similar specifications (the super fast f/2 aperture) and construction. I personally won't risk doing the Lumix LX3, LX5 or LX7.

Sometimes a ghostly white ring can happen in infrared-converted cameras, probably due to the the internal light reflections off certain internal barrel parts of the lens. I have seen it with PowerShot SX20IS though it only happens in very bright sunny day with the sun into the lens.

Thanks Jemapela for the very detailed reply! Appreciate it!

Too bad LX3 can't be converted, I have one in my drybox :P

Nathan: Thanks! I'm actually looking for recommendations on which compact camera is suitable, not where to convert :) Sorry I did not state clearly in my original post :)

Anyone else has any recommendations on which compact camera is suitable for IR conversion without hotspot isssue?
Thanks!

Thank you all for the recommendations! :)

To borrow this thread: I have a old old Fuji Finepix camera - 602Z. Can it be modded for IR?

If yes, how much would it cost? Thank you!
