Comments on various photography clubs/societies

Seems like we have established that it's more of a case of miscommunication since what EC said is "that's all you have". If one is objective, you can think that he's expecting more from the photogs, maybe because he usually shows a lot of pictures? Of course, if you think of it sarcastically, it will have opposite meaning. Heck, if you put a ! or ? behind that short sentence, the meaning is totally different.

As i have said in my post, i truly believe that EC probably just want to show his pics to point out any mistakes that he may have made. In any case, if in doubt, ask or clarify. That's what everyone should do right? :P

My heart really:bheart: when i heard what he said. He was just flipping thru my albums and all he said was is that all u have? He then arrogantly showed me what he have thru his laptop and was happily boasting abt where he went and all these are his pictures.

I was really sad and angry that as an instructor, he was more eager to show off what he has rather than to comment and help correct new learner abt photography. Nothing on composition, framing, subject interest, handling techniques were commented. My enthusiam abt photography was killed on the spot.

If the thread-starter had shown the instructor images of a certain type of images (say portraits) but the instructor showed another type (say landscapes), then it's more explicitly a case of comparing apples with oranges. For the irrelevance, you could more easily suspect showing off.

Here's a learner who seemed to have asked for comments and feedback but (as he said) received nothing about composition, framing, subject interest, handling techniques (as I quote his own words), about his own work. Instead, he received someone else's story and slide-show.

Yes.. i agreed if he did show portraits while the instructor showed him landscape.. then it may be a case of showing off. Well, from what truthphotographer has said and claimed she speaked with EC, i think it should not be the case.

However, since i do not know the full story, i shall not pass judgement.

Any feedbacks or comments about the quality of the instructors and the clubs/societies?

I do think that I have learnt from PSS, both in the basic course and the Photo critique sessions on Fridays. One of the good places for newbies ... from the feedback I got from other people ... some instructors are objective in correcting your skills while others not, they are however generally nice folks.

To clarify some doubts here, i showed him some collection of pics for comments so as to select 6 different pics of different nature (eg: nature, landscape, etc) for submission. What was shown by EC is clearly his recent trip to some places (it sld be Batam if i'm not wrong) with other club members which is highly irrelevance.

Well, if he were to use his pics to point out any mistakes, at least some comments were to be made. But he merely 'Show Off' his whole trip to me without a single comment.

If in doubt, ask or clarify. That's what everyone should do right?.. Ya, i sld have ask him instead. My mistake then. Sorry abt that.

Yup, i guess it may be just some miscommunication. To whoever this thread has affected (esp truth photographer), i still wanna stress that it is just my personal encounter and my personal feedback. Lets all just carry on with our life. No point debating over it anymore.

Tariesy, no harm done. It's always good to trash things out in the open. It is only with discussion like this that people will understand how clubs like PSS works as well as how things can be wrongly misjudged/miscommunicated.
