the CZ24-70 is damn sharp even @ F2.8 but the AF speed is still not on par with the canons though

I disagree with you (as do third-party reviews). The Sony 24-70 is an incredibly fast-focusing lens and in my own testing is noticeably faster than the Canon 24-70.

Then again, another thing to consider is the poor QA on the Canon L lenses, of which there have been many complaints, including on photozone.de:

"Well, I guess everybody has a nemesis and mine is the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 USM L. It took me 4 (f-o-u-r) samples of the lens to get a good one - please note: "good", not a "great" sample. The first three variants showed rather hefty centering defects which spoiled the results quite a bit."

As for his comments about the 24-70 focusing speed:
"A highlight of the lens is the extremely fast and silent SSM AF drive - if you think the Canon or Nikkor variants are fast here you may need to prepare for a surprise."

Bro, time to upgrade? Hehe
I was playing with the A700 + CZ24-70 @ the show, it's really fast & sharp. This time they allow cust to test some of the good Lens which include the 70-200 f/2.8 and Julian was hanging ard the A700 booth. But I still find the A700 body price still a bit on the high side.
:(

$1799 for body only is pretty low leh... I paid $2500 for my 7D body, like almost one year after its launch...

Ok. Noted. Edited my previous post.

Bro, the price given to you by CP is strictly confidential. Don't post it here or else you'll get them in trouble with sony and then nobody will get a special price anymore.

Hehe, nowadays technology advances so fast that photography becomes a affortable hobby!
Maybe because I always compare the prices of Sony Equipment in HK to SG that's why I find it still expensive @ $1799. :bsmilie:

Wah, sony a200 kit selling at $888!?!?

could it be because the A700 they have @ comex has faulty AF as it was trying hard to lock on focus while i try my own cam encounter no issues focusing. wanted to try the lens on my own body but they didn't allow...

even though issues with AF the lens is still very usable with incredible details even @ F2.8.

It could also be a lack of strong contrast subjects? My 24-70 focuses so fast that I sometimes have to focus on something else just to be sure it's really focusing. An advantage of the hand grip + eye sensor... By the time the camera is at my eye, it's locked focus.

It's not a new term... just look up the news a bit more... all major camera manufacturers have been shifting towards easier to use DSLRs for entry level users who are used to PnS digicams and frame their pictures using the LCD screen... hence Liveview, availability of various tone-curve mappings... essentially, the EOS100D, Alpha 2000/350, Nikon D40x/60 are all PnS DSLRs... they are very simple to use, produces great pictures on fully automatic modes, and don't need the buyer to buy anything else... that's what a PnS does...
i guess canon 40D/50D and nikon's D300, D3 are PnS too then :P

i beg to differ, liveview not necessary means it's for PnS cross over beginner although it does help encourage PnS shooter to start buying a DSLR. I felt the main feature and draw(for liveview) gives an alternative shoot angle, of cos unless u like to shoot in awkward yoga style.

"PnS DSLR" should be bridge camera like Sony DSC-R1/828, H1-9, Panasonic Lumix FZ18 etc.

Those already have a category - bridge cameras...

You're being disingeneous... I was referring to the lower end entry level DLRs as being PnS DLRs... the higher end cameras are obviously not PnS stuff as these usually don't even have scene modes or full automatic program modes, like the D300... And for that matter, the Canon 50D has been shifting its focus towards the consumer rather than the semi-pro backup bracket... if you read the previews on a few respected sites, that's the feel that most reviewers get... and I guess that's the way the market is moving... since there will be a new 5D MkII which would take the semi-pro market... the 40D/50D, A700, straddles the semi-pro and consumer brackets cos there isn't a similar product as the D300...

It's an illustration of my point. i'm being cheeky(don't take it seriously) my point is that liveview doesn't or shouldn't be labelled as a PnS feature as what you've mentioned. I'm sure its as useful to a beginner as to a pro user in entry dslr or mid or who knows top range dslr.
