Collapsible Summicron 50mm

A friend of mine asked if I wanted to buy his copy of the Collapsible Summicron 50mm/f2. I am pondering whether it's a good idea, especially from what I have heard of how... fragile and easily fogged the poor old lens is (not least the possibility of the glass turning yellow). I will probably use the lens on the Panasonic GF-1, but I would like to hear some ideas on how best to take care of it, or whether I should keep it near permanently in the dry cabinet. Thanks in advance.

Since its digital and he is your friend, get from him and shoot till your hearts content and see the performance of the lens in m4/3 format. Here's some photos using the lens on m4/3

Those that turns yellow, usually have radioactive Thorium oxide and have serial no lower than 106xxxx.

How does one prevent fogging? From what I read, the coating degrades due to absorption of moisture, which we have in abundance here in Singapore.

I actually have a radioactive thorium coated lens, the takumar 50f1.4. Still shoots good pics although the glass is yellow. One way is to go to aquarium shops and get a UV light to bake it for a few hours then all will be good again.
