Hi, I know that you can't collapse those lenses like the Summar 5cm F2 on a body of the Leica CL due to its design. Would like to know whether it is the same for the other Leica M mount bodies such as the M6 classic. Anyone knows whether it will harm the shutter curtain if you collapse it?

I don't have a Summar 50mm f2 LTM to try on. However, I don't have any problem with Elmar 50mm f2.8 (both ver. 1 & 2) and Elmar 90mm f4 on M6 TTL. They will not hit the curtain.

Please keep it a practice not to mount the lens in fully retracted mode. Some M models such as M5 cannot have the lens retracted into the body, it will not hit the curtain but it will hit the body internal rib. Elmar 50mm f2.8 can be safely use on M8/M8.2 but not Elmar 90mm f4.

:)

Hi, hookonclassic.

I love my 1ver elmar 50mm. I know this question is out of the topic. Any different between both version??

thanks in advance

50mm f2.8 Elmar (Ver. 1 1957 - 1974) available in both LTM or bayonet
50mm f2.8 Elmar (Ver. 2 1995 - 200?) after the launch of M6J kit
Major improvement over Ver. 1
1) Lens barrel front aperture will not rotate when focusing, this is a great improvement over ver. 1, if the aperture ring is old and stiff, you move the focus when adjusting the aperture.
2) Improved optical quality using high refraction glass and multi-layered anti-refraction coating. More contrasty wide open then ver. 1, typical of modern lens design.
3) Ver. 2 focus down to 0.7m and Ver. 1 min. focus distance is 1m .

:)
