"Malapascua is a small island located north of Cebu in the Phillipines. We stayed at Exotic Dive Resort, and dived with...Exotic. Some other divers diving with us were staying at other resorts as the rooms in this resort is really limited."

EXOTIC. 2mr going U know?

woah, sprain...your photos nvr cease to amaze. a constant reminder of y i picked up photography

Thanks Sprain!

Awesome....whetting my appetite to fly up like right now. Did u say possible hammerheads at Kemod Shoal in April? My group's gonna jump excitedly at that. ;) I'm already thrilled by the aspect of the many species of nudibranch.

Will have to check up with them on the DM thing. What's the name of the DM you had? We hope we don't encounter the same problem.

The DM's name is Paul, a local guy. Nice chap, but hard to understand his accent sometimes though :)

awww...zipps, urs give me sweet dreams at nite ;)

BTW, sprain - if i remember correctly, u r using the A640 with a pair of strobes yes? Wanna ask you something. I just got my A640 n doing some test land shots in macro mode with the internal flash only. Keep getting these nasty shadows on the lower right hand corner of my pics. Do you have this prob as well, or is it just me?
If it's the inherent equipment prb, then strobes are a must 'cos I dun wan my upcoming Sipadan trip to be a disappointment.

yes! strobes are a must!

a cheaper way to get around that problem would be to move further away from the subject, and crop later.

btw, were you using the flash diffuser? it helps alot.

I have 1 strobe, and yes the shadow occurs all the time with the internal flash for macro shots. Never tried whether the diffuser that comes with the Ikelite housing will help or not...

hahaha john, why do i get the feeling you were gonna say that?
Havnt' tried with the diffuser yet, but am thinking that it may not help much.

may do a "check-out" dive for the cam come march with a frn's DIY strobe. Hopefully it turns out ok so that I don't have to blow my bonus on a branded strobe....YET :sticktong

the diffuser does help alot actually. it sort of 'brings' the flash up to the front flush with the lens port, instead of being hidden behind it.

try it out and see if there's a significant difference.

don't expect too much from the DIY strobe unless you know how to calculate flash exposure and stuff...i'm still struggling with that, so good luck and do let me know how it turns out

john, think i'll go back n try with the diffuser then. hai....this is beginning to sound very expensive.

also sprain, the position of the strobe wld also matter if i wanna take away the shadows?

Inspired me to take proper photo lessons from Uncle David hehe:)

I'm using a Canon too, S80. The shadows come from the Canon lens port. It will be more obvious U/W without the diffuser. Try it out to see the difference. Strobes are a good idea for macro.

The diffuser should have come with the housing. I know you wouldn't normally take pictures on land with a housing but for test macro shots I did with the A540, it made 100% difference when I used the housing so I could also use the diffuser. It worked perfectly so I could then take perfectly lit crappy shots. :bsmilie:

:o sounds like an interesting trip. where did u sign up for this dive? how much does it costs?

I guess with a strobe, the shadow of the lens port will be a thing of the past, unless you place your strobe right next to the internal flash...
