ClubSnappers in Melbourne.. anyone?

I'm curious, why is it worrying to see so many Singaporeans in Melbourne?

The number of attendees was incredible from what I heard, and they even ran out of the door gifts.

I think it's worrying for Singapore as a whole because there's obviously a whole lot of 'brain drain' happening. People who have the potential to do something for the country are not even there anymore.

Not that anyone cares I suppose. There's always foreign talent.

no time for processing the sg day pics yet. Still working on the hen's night and my dance crew pics.

Anyway...here's my intro...I'm a PhD student fr UniMelb and a street dancer...

PhD! wow... no joke!

Hope you can post some of your SG day pics in the forum :)

Has it occurred to you that maybe it is not the migration of local talent, but simply Singaporeans who have opened their minds and eyes to a greater world and prefer grazing on a different pasture with perceived greener grass? That is, living in a society that is less restrictive and more liberal?

I'm not talented. I'm partially brain-damaged by alcohol, but I know I love being on this different pasture where I have far more freedom, and live among open-minded people who are less hypocritical and judgemental of me photographing naked models. :)

:bsmilie: See, this is the 'brain drain' that I'm talking about. Someone who's open-minded and loves photographing naked models could well aid the progression of the country!

Certainly I agree with the idea of going to a place with more open space and less restrictions, plus less stress. At least here I don't feel as though my crotch is being squeezed real hard every second of the day!

Hmmm...naked models...country....hmmmm.....drool.....lol

I wish to make this clear that I don't have a particular or deliberate love of photographing naked models. Readers/members in this forum may jump to the wrong conclusion, and often people tend to do so, resulting in an undesirable impression. I'm just really open-minded, and me being open-minded is already bad enough to draw criticism.

However, on the topic of nudity and nakedness, I really wished I had a video recording of the Phua Chu Kang live performance at S'pore Day. If I remember correctly, the character Margaret Phua (played by Tan Kheng Hua) said on stage that Singapore is known as "the nanny state/nation" in 1 of her lines during the show on stage.

I was surprised at this open and public statement, and perhaps, admission. It is indeed true that Singapore is widely perceived as a nanny nation by the western world despite all the westernised behaviour Singaporeans appear to have.

In contrast, Korea is quite liberal, explicit, erotic, and even perverse with sex scenes in some of their movies. My interest in Korea has exposed me to a few of such liberal adult (but not porn) Korean movies which are permittedly sold on video store shelves in Australia (maybe not in Singapore, I don't know.) One of the movies I saw had sex scenes like 80% of the movie length, one after another, almost continuously. Nothing like this is ever made or seen in Singaporean movies due to conservatism and heavy-handed over-protective censorship.

Singapore is far too restrictive in permitting freedom of expression, and this stifles many forms of the arts.

What hen's party and crew's pics? Singapore Day?

Started to do freelancing for fun...as a backup photographer. It was a big mistake to take on the hen's party. I was given the wrong information on the lighting and I'm way under-equipped for the shoot. I don't own a flash and 50mm f1.4 and 85mm f1.8 were out of stock when I got the camera..So I was shooting with f2.8-4.5....it's terrible....anyway....I learnt my lesson on that. It was a free job....so...it's ok that I screwed up..did warn them that I can't shoot normally if the lighting is bad. Crew pics...I took several pictures of my dance crew for the performance pamphlets.

Some of my crew shots...on my gf first...haven't got time to process the rest yet

Not sure whether anyone here in forum is interested in macro shots. There's this patch of flowering bush at city gaol that attracts like 30 bees. I wasted about over 200 shots...and only managed to freeze one in the air. Ended with one side of the face-sunburnt too...and a pair of very giddy eyes after an hr of shooting at the bush...lol. I'm very tempted to spray cold air around the bush to make them fly slower...haha. But just couldn't do it....lol

IMO, this would have been pretty clear even without being said. I'm sure the bulk of us can see this in a lighthearted fashion. :D

Speaking of performances...there's a couple of hilarious movies by Jack Neo that I really applaud for bringing to light some of the things in our country. 'Just Follow Law' and 'I Not Stupid', if I remember correctly?

hi, you may want to share more of your assignment details through this forum.. so more people be able to participate.

Sorry to bother you guys...
Do anyone know whether there is a sigma service centre in melb? I got my sigma 17-70mm from bangkok through a friend, so I didn't get a chance to test the lens before purchasing it. I always find my pictures slightly out of focus using that lens, whereas my sigma 70-300mm seemed to be always sharper - it doesn't seem that the problem lies on the body. If I use MF or focus anything at infinity @ 17mm, the pictures are sharp. Thus, I did a focus test and found that 17mm and 30-50mm have front focus problem about 4 cm; from 70mm onwards the lens has back focus about 4 cm. However, it is almost spot-on at 24mm. From the net, it seems that I have to send my lens for calibration. Also, Sigma has international warranty...not sure whether that is true or not...I hope so. Or is there anything else I can do about it? In any case, I don't think that lens is ready for this sun's wedding shoots....sob* Have to pray that my fingers and eyes are as fast as AF. lol

As best as I know, the authorised distributors of Sigma in Australia (C R Kennedy) may not be able to repair Sigma lenses because they don't have a service workshop. I may be wrong.

The company I work in orders, with some limitations, spare parts through C R Kennedy and repair the lenses.

I'm working as a camera/photographic technician, repairing and modifying DSLR cameras and lenses, mostly Canon, occasionally Nikon.

A ClubSnapper in Melbourne has proposed, in a private message to me, that we could all meet up on a Sunday afternoon.

How about this Sunday afternoon? Say 2pm over coffee somewhere in the city?

I have checked..C.R Kennedy is the only one that deals with sigma. However, they might not have a service shop here like what Jemapela said. Jemapela, re u able to fix front/back focus problem? I would love to meet up with u guys, but I'm shooting a wedding this sunday...sigh. U guys have fun...unless it's at night...hmmmm..and in the city...hmmm...lazzart? lol
