clubsnap car boot sale day?

just to echo ed9119's qn - does anyone know if we need a permit from URA for car park boot sale? i checked their website's e-services and can't find any info on it.

Another forum trying to organize a car boot sale several years back. Some relevant info.

Excerpt:
"Anywaz, I checked wif Police HQ licensing division. According to them, they don't issue a license for a one off car boot sales like dat.
U'll onli need a license if you set up a perm estab to sell second hand goods for a period of 6 mths or more.

The bikini manual carwash is.... a different story. So may haf to scrap dat idea."

There's a "Apply for Use of Parking Lots" page, but it's unclear if your intended usage falls under this though. Best to call in and find out.

Note these two terms in the T&C:
8. The applicant shall not in any circumstances allow the parking lot(s) to be used by a third party without authorisation from URA.

9. The parking lot(s) shall only be used for the approved purpose(s). Vehicles are not permitted to be parked in the parking lot(s) without authorisation from URA.

why need permit?

Can we just all appear at a public carpark with our vehicles and foldable tables?

I think one thing which always hinders our spontaneity in Sg (I am a citizen) is "Need permit anot ? "

As featured in "Ah Boys to Men" - everything we do must ask permission.

LOL

Think that's workable if it's something informal between a small group of friends. With larger groups there's a higher likelihood of causing obstruction and inconvenience to other users who have a right to use the carpark as well...

Well, imagine people just come and setup pasar malam at your void deck or carpark lots near your home when they feel like it ;p
That said, I've long wanted to spontaneously setup a foldable table (or even just a canvas sheet on the floor) at the void deck to do a quick jumble sale. Ha.

The BigSplash seems to have a carboot sale thing going on.

Perhaps can check with them if they would be opening to partnering CS to do a photography-themed weekend (assuming you can get the minimum required participants for the space).

How about the carpark beside kallang leisure park? There quite empty too..

Dempsey road carpark also very empty... And is in a more central location

Demsey would not be convenient to those not driving. Actually we don't need "car boot" as we are not selling clothes or bulky stuff. Our stuff can be easily carried, we just need a place and tables. Near MRT better.

Or you can see it this way. If you don't have a carboot, get a friend that has one to bring you there. :bsmilie:

you need to look at customers perspective when you want to sell anything, is the location accessible and convenient to people with or without cars??

so if 20 photographers are selling stuffs there, of course you hope at least you have 100-300 people come to this place, but possible to have all of them drive into that location?

Where are you going to find enough (free) tables? A car boot sale is precisely to circumvent this problem. Also TS (n others who support this idea) may have quite a lot of stuff to sell? Dempsey may not be near an MRT station, but its just a short bus ride away from one.

A compromise could be a car park near an MRT station? I can't think of a good one though.

How about the open carpark near scape? There's a good crowd there and the carpark is not always full. It's in a central location, and even passers-by will come in to look around.

Eunos MRT station, car park is just beside and it is big enough,

Commonwealth MRT station, the car park next to Blk 115A Commonwealth Drive, (where fotohub CW located), is only less then 5 mins walk.

think there's a big carpark at eunos mrt. Another alternative may be to work with those grassroots organisations? they can prob get the location easier than us applying for it.
