Is it a common thing to experience bad gateway for Clubsnap during wee hours around 3am? I suppose it is some backup routine running at this hour ?

It is just a forum software bug.
To get around the problem just clear your browser cookies and problem solved. Admin should check on this inconvenience though.

I see, if this is the inherent behaviour of vBulletin, then I guess can't help much. If it's about database backup, I do have a solution that doesn't need to shutdown the site for such maintenance.

Servers are expected to be up and running smoothly 24/7, 99.9% of the time whether maintenance or backups are being done. The internet is 24/7.
If the server needs to be shut down temporary for maintenance, the appropriate messages will be put up to inform users of the event. Users should not be encountering mystifying system error messages as this will not be helpful to all parties. (Imagine users keep trying and ends up jackhammering the site)
This forum does not look like a heavy traffic forum, only maybe the B&S section have regular postings. "there might be issues due to the CPU Peak" -- are you sharing a server with many other websites -- maybe can consider changing service provider?
I know this forum stops issuing page loads once the cookie in the browser hit a certain limit/size -- when that happens nothing will bring the forum back to the user until the browser cookies are cleared. This had happened to me at least 3 times -- Admin do check your server error logs.
The 502 Bad Gateway error is usually a network error between servers on the Internet, meaning the problem is not with your PC or Internet connection.
If the problem do not rise from this forum's software then most likely the, 3rd party, advertiser's code in the forum is in "bad form" and is causing the problem...
Anyway I would like to thank the admin and mods and the regular contributors for their hardwork in keeping this forum up and running.

I host a car forum on a paid hosting (surplus) using smf1.14. So far it hasnt give me any problem(s) and/or server down time. Support has been so far so good. As for smf, its 1 of the free forum apart from vbulletin, phpbb etc.

:bsmilie: I was enquiring about the stability of the site and then here it becomes up selling of S/W. I believe this site has been modified significantly using vBulletin platform. Correct me if I'm mistaken, since this site is not commercial in nature, probably it might be too much an effort to port into another platform.

1: Start Charging Members for access, so we can get more powerful hardware and buy more bandwidth.
2: Remove users like you to save CPU power and bandwidth.
