ClubSNAP Audiophiles thread

hard rock: Metallica - all album, Gun n Roses greatest 1 & 2, Nirvana - Nevermind,

Urban: Black eyed peas - Elephunk

:)
How about Thin Lizzy, Status Quo, Journey, ELO, Firehouse (Good Acoustic...my fav album), Queen....so many more from the great Rock era of the 70's...

if you are using good interconnects, with good insulation etc, it will last for quite many years.. even a decade or so.

but surprisingly my 10yr old straight wire interconnects have started oxidising.. not at the terminal end but length wise.. there are effects on the sound.. it becomes more mellow.. at the expense of clarity

I use Van Den Hul C5-Hybrid. Give it a try. ;p

Yup...also a big fan of Paul Rogers (Bad Co) and solid stuff DP (Machine Head...my all time fav)...Stairways....Samba Pati....I had a rocking good time then....solid stuff

Thank goodness! For a moment I thought Rock music is DEAD. I was into Diana Krall,Patricia Barber and all that jazz many years back, but went back to rock music after I gotten tired of it.LONG LIVE ROCK N' ROLL!

the shielding's terribly oxidised already, except not visible till you destroy it by cutting it open length wise

StraightWire Maestro has a transparent sleeve. I can see the shield within and it looks okay. ;)

Actually, I live on a high floor. Humidity is actually quite high (between 70% to 90%) at my place. I have a digital hygrometer, that's how I know.

For those considering a simple 1 source setup

Marantz offers a good value in SG, but the tonal signature is warm, so choose the speakers wisely, the Monitor Audios, Missions M3 series go well, whereas a darker sounding speaker like the Whard Diamonds will dull the music.

Hi

I finally bought my 1st sound system and it is really exciting. I bought a Cambridge 340A Amp with Mission M31i speakers, some Pioneer CD Player bought in 1994; and it is definitely a jump up from computer speakers.

I am currently playing with the speakers and oh my, it is really interesting.

1) The Bass comes from the back and reflect from the wall and thus, the position of the speakers from the wall helps. Any feedback on what the optimum distance and too close for comfort distance is?

2) Due to cost, my whole set up is on my Plywood TV console together with my TV. I am thinking of putting some PORON (very hard foam) to cushion the speakers (vs using Bluetack). Is it advisable to cushion the CD player + AMP? I think speaker stands and Audio racks are too expensive for my equipment(a few hundred bucks!), so any other suggestions.

I think I am going to stay away from echoloft and the other pure audio forum for a while as the poison level is extremely high there!

Boundary reinforcement helps bass output but slows the note, so experiment and see

Stands are definitely the way to go, 2nd hand ones can be under $100 or less. Keep a look out. In the mean time, anything that is solid or stable will help.

Your plywood console will still vibrate as a whole, loosening the bass. A big brick or book to dampen this may help.

Good luck

Hi

One thing I do not understand is that how come vibrating AMP will cause issues since is all electronics, CD player, yes, because CD may skip track.

Ok.. I will look our for stands and try to dampen the speakers at the moment.

For a single source setup, I would prefer biamped nearfield studio monitors rather than amp+passive speaker.

This is an audiophile "hi-fi setup" thread. For headphones and such, there are appropriate threads elsewhere.

Thanks for not OTing. :)

There is a headphone thread, but anyway, try Hung Brothers 3rd level Sim Lim Square - ask them for the price
Cheers
