love the details on the damsel  did you use a macro rail?

Thanks simoun and Nick.

Simoun, macro focusing rail would be very useful for this kind of shot. But, I'm still contemplating whether to get one as it will be extra weight to lug around. I wish they have a lighter an smaller version.

macro rail? :o

Whats that? :embrass:

sumball: Macro focusing rail lets you move the whole camera position closer to the subject so you don't have to continually adjust the tripod position.

shutterfly: yes, taken near the SBG Planthous.

Here's another Uncropped shot using:
1.4xTC + 25mm ext tube + Tamron 180mm + 500D (in order from the cam)

This is the max magnification I can make with my setup, unless I use a reverse lens method.

CP has 2 diff manfrotto focusing rail.. luckily, I only concentrate on butterflies (for now) so no chance on using the rail ;p

Thanks Flyingpig: the settings for the 2nd shot is 0.5s, f/22, ISO200 to cover the light loss for 1.4TC though it's not a sharp as the first one because of the slight breeze. I should have used 0.7s.

Hein: my 100-400IS is basically for handholding and 'quicky-quicky' shot. :p

Taken at the Planthouse this morning.

Damselflies are not as easy subject as dragonflies, esp. when you talk about ‘head and shoulder' shot. They are smaller, less tolerant and not territorial. Don’t give them any reason to fly for they will not return to the same perch.

Inspired by THIS

F/22, 1/4s, ISO200, fill flash (Uncropped)
Tamron 180 + 25mm Ext Tube + 500D
