Cinematic Wedding Video Partnership

Hi.

I'm currently doing freelance video for events and concerts, but not for wedding, as I feel that the local market for wedding video is very over-saturated with people who are fighting to give the best price, and reciprocated by people who are fighting for the best price, at the expense of quality memories of the day of your life.

I want to introduce cinematic wedding videography as a trend into the local market, and at the same time making it affordable, but not have it scream 'cheap'.

To build up my portfolio, I have thus decided to do a partnership video with one couple who is really interested in collaborating to produce a cinematic wedding video for their special day, for free of course!

The free package will include up to 3 meetings with the couple to discuss their style and expectations and also for them to approve or give comments on the shots that we need to take. Also it will include up 1 full day of shoot prior to the wedding day, and a full day shoot on the actual day it self. There will be no express edit, so if you want express, then hire another videographer for that purpose. The package will also include 1 correction on the final edited video, 1 offline edit verification before online editing starts and also original soundtrack so there is no copyright issues to worry about. The video will be shot and edited in HD 1080i. The final product will be output in DVD Standard Definition with the H.264 High Definition file placed in the same DVD-ROM disc. Therefore the disc will be read by most DVD players in SD and can be played back on a computer in HD.

Since this is a partnership, I will want to interview the couples personally to decide on which couple I wish to collaborate with. Though the final video belongs to the couple, I will have web and broadcasting copyrights to the video in both SD and HD formats for use for my portfolio.

So those interested can contact me for more info at yihern@gmail.com and I look forward to working with one lucky couple out there. One last thing I forgot to add, we should have at least 3 months runway to the actual wedding date.

If you would like to see my style, please visit http://www.bobbylime.com and under the portfolio page, view the second video, Letter from God. Click on the video such that it opens youtube in another window, and in the bottom right corner of the video window, click 'view in HD' or something to that extent to view the video in High Definition.

Thanks.

Look forward to hearing from some couples soon! (:

Eh, hi Bobby! :D

Nice job on the Letter From God video!

And I applaud you for the initiative to push for creative productions for local weddings.

They are in themselves, almost monotonous and predictable (at least the Chinese wedding dinners in hotels ;p), so I hope the wedding videos don't eventually degrade to a template-like nature too!

Anyway, for curiosity's sake - are you a one man team? I'm asking with regards to the cinematic wedding videos you are planning to produce.

You know why..? Because in the local context, people don't still value wedding videos as much as photographs and I think to achieve a credible wedding video of cinematic quality, you need a proper setup, which maybe not many people are willing to pay for.

What are your thoughts on this?

:)

hi purplemonkey...

Agree that many couples still value photos over videos and they have this mentality "Video editing is simple..." or "I don't need my video to be Fantastic..."

But they never realised that video is totally different from photo... it's only years later that wedding couples regretted not getting a video to record down everything and have it properly edited...

yes. that is so true. yes i'm a one man team. i would love to have people join me who can compliment me so we can work as a tag team. before i get a partner, i'm still a oneman team. haha. yea. thanks

Bobby, I honestly think you need to source for a partner to work with you if you want to realize this dream for a really good, cinematic quality wedding video of yours.

As many of us, those 'live' television shows eg. MTV awards etc. appear dynamic and visually interesting and captivating because they have cameras all over the place capturing different angles all the same time.

I think that's what missing in locally produced wedding videos, that are mostly captured from one camera only.

So, two cameras are just nice. Nice, interesting angles can be captured together with the usual shots. Definitely not more than two cameras, otherwise it will be a hindrance to the wedding event and space issues will arise. Not to mention trying to fight for that coveted frame with the photographer. ;p

PM me if you want to discuss the possibility of partnering up?

:)

To add on to that... Cost & time...

I have many wedding couples who welcomed this idea and wish to have a very visually engaging video but when they know the cost of having 2nd Cameraman and the cost for editing footage from the 2nd Cameraman (Note: Not a second camera. It's Second Videoman with a second camera), they dropped the idea...

Do try to have a 2nd camera (unmanned ) on tripod at times. Its still 1 videographer's work. Just make sure the framing is right before you press record. You can then have a better edit by having continuity of scenes. Just have to work harder on the AD.

Especially useful for that balcony shot at church weddings for march in, aisle shot for vows, etc...

With our local market, we must strive to produce works that looks like a multicam shoot, but is actually a 1 man show. That should educate the local consumers in time to come.

ya thats true. i've only done multicam single operator for concerts. i jus leave the main one running then concentrate on the side cam. quite mentally tiring after that. haha.

Well... that's why there're portable visual mixers and remote controls for Camcorders =) so that we won't be so mentally drained...
