Hi all,

May I ask.....

Which is nicer? Black or Chrome Leica?

My HK supplier is still waiting for my decision. Already paid though.

Used to own both M6 chrome and black.
Asians like chrome.
Caucasians like black.
In the west I hear black is considered more "pro" looking.
Easier to resell chrome one in Asia.
Black body with chrome lens barrel looks funny.
Chrome body with black lens is "ok"
Chrome body with chrome lens is "ok"

Buy both, one for slides, one for negs.

Interesting.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Although a lot of magazines has featured chrome lenses on black bodies, my initial thought of it when I first saw a real one with the combination was, 'Oh my...damn Fugly!'

Heard that black is not too 'Atractive',or distinguisable during candid shot as chrome body

I'd a black M7 with chrome and black lens. Chrome lens on black don't look bad to me. In fact the combination look good. Black on black is less noticeable.

Just bear in mind that chrome Leica lenses weigh more than their black counterparts, while the chrome and black M bodies weigh the same.

U R asking someone to choose girlfriend for u :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

Oh the black body do need more care as scratches on it are more noticeable. Either chrome or black its cosmetic and a personal choice.
Ha ha.. like the one about choosing gf... don't forget the gf have a choice too....

thats true, thats true..........and it is easier to scratch..........

If buying to collect, then get black as it's generally more sought after than chrome. If buying to use, then get chrome for durability.

Cool! Thanks for all the feedback.

Haha, I am still having a hard time deciding though. I have actually placed an order for the chrome. But I chosed to have it delivered only by next week, so I am left with very little time to ponder about it and make last minute changes.

It's something you don't usually get a second chance at, so it's really difficult to decide!

leica had "black paint" M2 and M3; olive ones too
and platinum M6.
buy what you like, not what others say "experts" favour this or that colour
there are too many "experts" in leica especially self-appointed ones
maybe the real experts are in the leica company and live in Germany.
the rest are just wannabees.......who happen to buy a few...

but can ask YOL925 to discuss cause he knows... and will never claim to be expert.

I think Ricohflex has struck a cord.

The only problem lies with GREED! I want both but can't have them and in turn find it so hard to decide on one.

It's like having twins and asking to only select one to live.

I've decided to leave it to the good hands of fate. Chose the one that has the best Serial No.

Why not get the Chrome one? If you want a black one after a period, just gaffer it black :-)

To me, chrome is not nice to gaffer black. If you like to gaffer up to protect, then black bodies might be better.

Anyway, my vote is for chrome, I've the body and lenses chrome. Even though they weigh more. Chrome has a less Pro look. I'm not a pro or a leica reseller, so I choose what is pleasing to my eye.

Black chrome bodies wear very fast...get a scratches then you get a mark on it liao!
Chrome bodies are more 'resistance' to scratches lo...
Hehe...

Hi all!

Thanks all for your kind suggestions.

I just got back from Perth and only till then have made selections of body colour of the M7 by pictures in the magazines and brochures.

Coincidentally, I chanced upon a Black one in Perth at Cameraelectronics and thought it was VERY SEXY. The 2mm increase of height above the viewfinder is kept proportionate in black.

The next night, I went to another shop called Camera Solutions and saw a silver chrome one.

In my honest opinion and not to offend fellow M7 or TTL users with Silver Chrome bodies, I feel that the Silver body looks rather stiff and not as sexy. The Silver Chrome actually draws a lot of attention to the top of the camera making it top heavy.

Having said that, I often look at magazines and brochures feeling the pain of not being able to enjoy a Silver Chrome body with my Silver lenses.

Also, I definitely think that Silver Chrome bodies without the 2mm increment in height, still look as sexy.

Anyway despite all the worries of maintanence for the Black body, I immediately changed my order to a Black one with the help of another fellow CS / SLUG member as Perth didn't have a overnight internet cafe!

Thanks to a kind Mr Lee for his help! :bsmilie:
