is it the lighting for that castle like building, or is the dynamic range really good here.
Great shots by the way! love this season!

Thanks. I am glad that you like the pictures. As for your question, I guessed it is a combination of both.

Man, those are some nice shots!

Yep its already christmas market time in Deutschland

In Hamburg, as it is up North, you don't really get so much snow. In fact, b4 the snow can hit the ground, its turned into rain. Having said that, IIRC, it did snow very lightly in Hamburg a week ago but not in the city.

In Göttingen, we had some really great snowfall (like in Hokkaido) last week. It was GREAT shooting in the snow and freezing my a*se off, but well worth it. The snow in the hills, on the branches and tiled roofs were just amazing and visually exciting.

However, these days, it seemed to be heated up slightly, so hopefully come Late Dec/January, we'll be having lotsa fun sledging down snow capped garden "slopes"

The christmas market in Göttingen is small compared to the rest of the bigger cities like Hamburg, but its cosy and really crowded. Have you tried the warm Glühwein mit braun Rum or with kirschpunsch in the cold weather? its rather traditional practice to have that in Winter/Christmas.

Also its great with bratwurst and all the various wurst....

:)

Thanks. Christmas (in Germany) without a mug of warm Glühwein mit braun Rum or kirschpunsch is akin CNY without the "Ba Kua". And yes, my wife loves the wurst :)

BTW, do you work in Germany? I used to have an acquiantance that I met once when we were shopping for some persian carpet in Bukit Timah Shopping Centre/ Complex some years ago. He worked in Europe and also has the unique surname "Soong". ;)

Beautiful.. I've always wanted to go for this Christmas market :P

did you went there on your own or by tour group? I knew trafalgar etc has the group tour.

Thanks for the compliments. I am glad that you liked them too.

No, I (with my family) went there by ourselves. Seriously, Germany is one of the easiest places to travel around.

You won't regret going for such Christmas markets. There are many things to see (and buy) and the festive atmosphere is simply mesmerizing. You should also seriously consider visiting a few of them around the same area. Every town/city has its own unique charm and captivating moments.

Cheers ! :)

Love the pics..great shot...wish I had a chance to go during christmas.. love to see the christmas markets...

Thanks and yes, you should go if there is a chance.

The Christmas markets usually start in the end of Nov and will end just before Christmas.

I was using D300 with 18-200 VR (I guessed it was rather a good choice as I wasn't keen to change lenses out in the cold, rainy/snowy and crowded environment). For nightshot, I always use a tripod.

As for settings, it really depends. I usually use "Manual" mode (with spot metering) to meter a few spots within my subject of interests before deciding which setting to use.

Sheesh.. I can so feel the xmas mood from here. If only Singapore can be as such.

Anyway, I love the bright lights.. simply beautiful.

Hi Samie,

yes, now i#m 'working' in Germany...but i just came here about 1/2 year ago......so well....i've still got anotehr 2-3 years more and will see how it goes.

Yep, the other drink that is very nice is Honig Mett...and that is really great in snow.
:)

Yes, I like the region much better than the rest of Germany. In fact, I go to Germany quite frequently both for business and leisure. My favourite is place is actually Munich and I am planning to bring my family there again next summer. :)

So, which city do you work in?

May I ask what's the settings used for Pic 11? Thanks!!

 Lovely decorations well taken!

Of course you may :)

I use Manual mode with Spot metering to measure the nutcracker, sky, ground, bright lights from the right stall and left building before deciding on an aperture of F/18 and time 13 sec.

Honestly, I don't think they put up as much lightings as what we did in Singapore along Orchard Road. I guessed it has much to do with the atmosphere and the people there.

:)
