it's 40cm la but IIRC it gives you up to 80cm of track length because of the unique dual rail system

I'm not sure about that, never used it before.

Can cheat a little by hanging something heavy close to the tripod's centre of gravity or just dangle a piece of string from the centre of the tripod to the floor and step on the string so that its tight.
