i wonder what sort of results can come out of an investigation done by the pinoy govt, other than excuses and excuses.. if the HK ppl want the truth, they are going to have to do it themselves

either the pinoy govt didn't take this hostage taking seriously, or the police were just not prepared to handle this sort of situation

may or may not happen.. the president is elected by the pinoys, not the HKers. to put it bluntly, the philippines people may not see this as something that affects them.. and the chinese in philippines are only a minority

Dude, the current President got elected via a landslide victory. It is absurd to think that "it will all be over" for him just because of this incident.

I'm not belittling the tragic incident that happened, mind you (lest somebody reads otherwise). Just that it's not enough to unseat a popular President like Noynoy Aquino.

He was also dressed in official police uniform. That I can still understand since he WAS a police officer. But draped in a flag? They think he is a national hero or something?

Not sure if Philippines has law governing the use of their flag as I have read the Philippines government has officially responded that they cannot doing anything about it.

I believe you answered your own question. I felt disgusted and ashamed when I first read about it (who wouldn't?). But just to let you know my answer -- and everyone in our household -- to your question above is DEFINITELY NO. I believe MAJORITY of the Filipinos believe so too, though I must say one's a fool to think that none will look up to him as a hero.

If there is none, I am afraid some HKers will think of innovative ways to use them. Already people in HK online forums have suggested several usage with the Philippines flag printed on them:
- diaper
- toilet paper
- sanitary napkin

Tit for Tat eh. That will not do anything good. If at all, it will end up worsening things. This is one area where I was kind of disappointed with the HK government... instead of pacifying its people, it responded by issuing a travel ban and handing out statements that actually end up inflaming the crisis.

Hats off to them for getting their people united though...

You're probably right.. it doesn't hurt them.. they probably wouldn't be bothered.. just look at the way they take pictures of the "crime scene" like it's some "attractions".. its pretty obvious what the incident meant to them.

I am. I was born in HK and is currently living there. So, I AM discussing whats happening in my own country.

So far, the discussion here is still quite civilize so I would say we should let the discussion continue.

JIX, obviously, you are a Pinoy, so, why don't you tell us how you feel about this incident? Do you feel the Philippines SWAT team has done a great job? or Mr. President Aqunio is not smiling while visiting the shooting scene? Or, the family of Mandoza should cover his coffin with the flag?

Unless you felt ashamed that your home country has done such a 'good job' in handling this tragedy, why don't you let people here to continue the discussion instead of deflecting the attention somewhere else?

I'm not Jix. But as a Filipino I'll say it once again. I felt embarassed. And angry. Because one crazed person put the entire nation in such a bad light.

The thing is that the President already issued a statement on this.. explaining that it was a "smile of exasperation" and even offered an apology.

Frankly, they can do all they want. They have every right to do this because it is not illegal in the Philippines. There is no law that stops anybody from doing it. But in so doing it doesn't mean that the Phil Govt, and I strongly believe the majority of the Filipino people, sanctioned or agreed to it.

To be frank, all 3 questions above have been discussed to death. Why keep on repeating the same thing thing over and over? It doesn't help at all. All the above does is keep pouring oil into the fire.

We all know that the Phil National Police has already admitted that mistakes were committed. Some heads were sacked. An investigation team involving both Philippine and HK Police/experts are currently working on the case. Even the Senate ran/is looking into it. Apologies were given. Assurances of a fair investigation were promised.

Having said all of the above, let me throw a question to you -- being born in HK -- and the question is similar to what one column writer wrote: What More Do They Want?

besides Singaporeans themselves have critiqued some of the hiccups at the youth olyumpics. Overall the youth olyumpics was successful overall.

My 3 questions were directed to JIX and not you. JIX is the person trying to divert the discussion so I am interested to know his actual stand on this. He/She seems to feel that the incident that had happened in Philippines is not worth discussing. That's why I question whether he/she felt proud/ashamed of what had happened.

So far, I have not seen anyone really came out and take responsibility. It is all lip service without sincerity. You can all blame those separate incidents after the tragedy as issues with individuals but when victims involve a different country's people, those individuals' act will always be identified as part of that country.

Denial, anger and acceptance are all part of the healing process. At this moment, most HKers are still in the anger stage. We just ask that Filipinos should act more sensitively. Please do not do something stupid to further antagonize the HK people such as taking smiling pictures of schoolgirls/police officers at the tragic scene and posting them up in Facebook.

I am saddened by what happened but I know venting my anger and frustration in some forums would not do any good for all affected parties. There are proper venues for airing your protest, and kopitiam is not it.
