I think you new to Spore photography shops. As for me and other photographers, we know which shop to buy at a reasonable price. Never pay you money until you are satified with the good. The shop you mentioned used to fleece on tourist and newbies. The shop have connection with other shops nearby.

I managed to see the box of film I needed and so pointed it out to the shopkeeper to enquire about the pricing and he told me that it was $35 per box.

Can you remember if the salesman specifically said $35/box? If so, you will probably have recourse over your claim.

Take the claim to CASE - I wonder if they still have the "blacklist" shop list scheme available.

wah must alert the IMF visitors not to go there ...... wait they kenna cheated

 who to call ?

If I'm not wrong, you could have called police.
They practically robbed you of your money!

Yeps, quoted $35 / box, no doubt ... Even if it was a misunderstanding between $35 / box and $35 / pack, its no excuse to give shoddy service, turn rude and not refund ...

I had a quite a number of bad experience with this shop before. From jacked-up prices, to utterly rude service.

Even if all the camera shops in S'pore were to burn down overnight, they will never, never, NEVER earn a single cent from me.

PUI! ;(

Never pay before one recieves their purchased goods in the correct quantity and conditions.

My friend time went to buy a camera somewhere else in Sim Lim (forgotten shop name). He played with the display model and decided to purchase. So he was told to made payment while another salesman will prepare the set for him. After making payment and left, he was shocked to find the display model packed into the box for him later!

I agree with synapseman.

Had a bad experience with this shop in 2003 - that is all out to rip customers off. I wonder how it stays in business for so long

Some businesses go for a hit and run kill and not for repeated customers. For each customer they rip off, they can afford to lose repeated business.

Imagine in some cases, (such as the other thread talking about wide angle convertors being 4x the price) - by statistic, it means they have earned repeated business of 3 extra trips (assuming same amount spent). Hence, they get a 4x visit during the first visit - extra cash in the pocket without hoping for a repeated visit.

Well, thats how some business operate.

Correction. Eg. If profit is 10% of the price, then by selling at 4x the price, they will actually make 41x the original profit. So effectively they get 40 extra trips instead of 3.

Sorry should be 31x the original profit, 30 extra trips instead of 40.

Ah yes, never quite saw it that way :) Yeap you are right :)

A friend of mine encountered issues with this shop as well. I'm posting an old post I dug up from somewhere:

OMG I’ve just encountered the worst camera shop ever. Worldwide Camera Centre at Peninsula Plaza is by far the most horrid shopping experience I’ve had.

The salesperson was so nice and convincing about the camera i was persuaded to buy it at a price he said was the lowest in the market. Being in a hurry and not having done enough research (my fault) about the product in question, i paid for it. Feeling guilty a short while later that i'd spent so much money, i decided to check in on other shops to check out the price of my camera. To my horror the quoted prices in ALL other shops were lower than WCC, and the prices quoted included tax as well.

Of course i went back to the shop asking why they had quoted me a price about $250 in excess and the salesguy who had been nice and friendly a while back, turned nasty. He said the other stores were lying and when i said i'd complain to case he mockingly told me to go ahead. It wasn't a problem of money then - i was enraged about his utter lack of respect and direct challenge in my face. He refused a refund and instead gave me a cheapo-looking wide-angle lens that probably cost only $50 or so.

I’ve never been this pissed with any store but this takes the cakes. Maybe I should go to CASE as the guy challenged, but CASE is too much of a hassle. I’m damn pissed. Can you imagine if they did it to visitors and those tourists left without knowing they’ve been cheated truckloads?

btw the store next to them is also run by the same pple i think

What goes around, comes around...

Personalli i've been cheated by this shop....
In march 2006 this yr actuallie...
I was looking fer a 50mm prime n they intro mi to this grobartig wide angle convertor.
I was a newbie then (still am 1 now) and i honestly told them that...
They sold mi that lens fer $240, down from their 'original price' of $500+
I bought it and later i learnt that that convertor costs $80 in sim lim....
DON'T ever go to that shop...;(

Hi all,

I'm glad that the message is getting across to all and it seems that there is a terrible service record behind this business.

The key I posted here again was to gain greater outreach and make people know that such things exists and maybe even prompt more to stand up for their rights and bring more of this matters up for public scrutiny.

Just for information, I've brought this issue up to CASE already. If you personally been affected by unethical treatment from this merchant and would also like to help bring them to justice, do drop me a mail at wannapreneur[at]gmail.com so perhaps we can do something together?

Thanks!

The monkeys in this shop always use the excuse of goin to storeroom to take stock and thn try to cheat you outta your money......

I was there once to try out a WA convertor on a DSLR lens.....and he even had the cheek to tell me that the Pros use that to shoot for commercials....after that when i refused to buy...they pulled me back in...luckily the security guard walked past and they let me go....

The camera shop beside Prime and Worldwide Cameras are a bunch..under same ppl...dun get cheated.

How this shop survived from last time to now i dunno. They must have cheated many ppl. Most times i pass by the shop it seems to be no business. The sales ppl must be brothers. They have family resemblences. I wonder how they can think of all kinds of ways to cheat ppl's money like tat. They will have their retributions in time to come i think. Maybe child born deformed or no asshole. Wife have affairs with men outside. They will get all types of cancer. lastly, one nite their shop will catch fire, everything in their shop will be razed by flame.

One day some big time gangster might accidentally walk into this shop & they do this to him they will be finished. The brothers will either get abducted & get beaten up or their shop burned or vandalised. They better be careful... i'm sure they have made many enemies.
