I don't think it's intended for video camera use.
 

It can be used la but which professional wants his raw footage in MP4. Lol. I think this is for those people who want to do live capture from TV or rip from a DVD/BRD
 

Yeah that's why I said intended. It may be a good solution for people still on tapes though;)

Yeah, fairly low bitrate, going to be quite compressed?

I imagine it could also serve as a cheapish backup against card corruption? Esp for those running cameras with single card slots. If the card fails, better to have compressed footage than none at all ;p

The top rated "Elgato Game Capture HD" costs twice that of the EZcap, and it supposedly does up 40Mbps.

I have the Elgato but I decided to order the ezcap anyway for the convenience.
I primarily use it for recording powerpoint during seminars.
Low bit rate MP4 recording is a great backup recording off a HDMI vision mixer for quick web upload
while the HD-SDI feed can be recorded as prores to Atomos for further post.
