Am using a 20-35mm f/2.8L right now. Love it bits and pieces. Ebay still has this lens and trust me, the ang mors really keep their lenses well.

Yeah, the Sigma 12-24 is the ultimate UWA for FF.

It's not the best. Just the widest rectilinear AF lens you can get.

17-35mm f2.8L or 17-40mm f4L.

For crop, you can use Canon's best UWA (IMHO) which is the 10-22. For FF, you really have no choice unless you don't mind the inferior IQ of the 16-35 Mk1 or the slower 17-40.
