I noticed some of your were talking about building your own remote control for a Minolta D7 rather than pay the greedy prices that are demanded for a circuit board and a few feet of wire. I was starting to building one myself. But today I notice that someone -- actually several someones -- are selling non-Minolta remotes that are suppose to do everything the branded remotes do -- for less than $10, Buy It Now prices on eBay. Shipping cost about the same, which brings total cost to less than $20. Check it out.

And check out "How Digital Photography Works," available at your neighborhood Amazon.

 for your modding spirit.

but how did you separate focusing and release? this would only work if you set to infinity and don't need to focus

the possibilities are almost endless, come to think of it, why stop at two? garmen asking us to reproduce more, so we should do the same for photography, splice a control to 4 cd cables, hook up 4 cams with cheapo 90-degree AOV lenses on tripods, sit in between them and cover 360 degrees with ONE single shutter release... no need for fisheyes and metering nightmares
