In view of the unreasonably high prices for a 2nd hand EFS 55-250 in the B/S section - Bargain city sells this lens brand new for only S$399. If I'm correct, this price is lower than what most camera dealers offer.

So if you're considering buying a second hand one without a warranty for $340 or $360, why not add $50 more for a brand new one with warranty?:)

By the way, I'm not in any way affiliated to Bargain City. I'm providing this information, simply because I'm rather frustrated after monitoring the price of this lens in the B/S section for weeks...

Wow. I remember when it first came out, it was going for S$360 new last year in march I think.

Welcome to the world of ridiculous and insane price here in CS. Item here are going at amazing price. is even more hot than the car market or landed property.. ppl are willing to pay huge dollars for a crumpler strap.. a saving of 2 dollars is big savings!!

good luck in ur find..

Not sure about other brands, but for Canon, most of the B/S prices are reasonable - kept in check by simple economics laws. But once in a while, someone sets a ridiculous price, and someone else not doing their homework falls for it, and others simply follow suit at this silly price. :nono:

How ridiculous the prices are in the B/S section. Go check it out and note the prices for this particular lens. Arrant silliness.

Thanks. I've decided to go for a 70-300 IS or a 70-200 F4 IS instead.:dunno:

from canon price list thread : $465 (CP-M, Aug09) | $460 (MS, Aug09)

prices do go up and down following simple rules of demand and supply. reputable camera shops usually have similar prices, less known vendors such as the bargain city that you have introduced may be less responsive to market price changes. however, until you order the lens and get it in your hands from them, try not to make bold comments.

price in BnS are marked up for bargaining one..

buy got silly pple offer silly price for 2nd hand goods at nearly BN prices..

hahaha..anyway i got a 55-250 for $280 off BnS recently.

You seem to have a vested interest in this. Are you selling one? ;)

I did not introduce bargain city. In fact i learnt of that vendor through another post. If you had done a search, you would have known.

Prices have increased for a long time now due to strong japanese yen, I doubt they would take this long to respond.

If you wish to refute what I posted, please provide cogent evidence instead of tenuous assertions.

haha... Congrats bro. Some ppl trying to sell theirs at cut throat prices and not happy that economic forces are kicking in already. ;)

lolz, then why don't you get a dozen from them and resell? since shops are selling $70 higher?

If one is only slightly observant, and perhaps objective, one would have realized the purpose of this thread. :dunno:

My point is this. Try not to sound as though sellers (including myself) in BnS are trying to cheat others with unreasonable prices. Granted, occasionally there are people who really set items at extortionate prices, but most of us are honest users, and prices are usually set according to the item's condition and 1st hand prices. I sold mine for $350, it was still under warranty for nearly a year and the condition as good as new. Plus a free UV filter. Again, at reputable vendors except that bargain city online store you've mentioned, the item is being sold at $460, so how is that price unreasonable to you?

If you want to let others know about the amazing deal at the site, by all means do so, but do show some respect for fellow clubsnappers. If you feel that the price is unreasonable, just state an offer to the seller, if the seller doesn't want to sell at that price, who gives you the right to complain? It just appears as though you want to get this lens 2nd hand and trying to manipulate BnS prices with this thread, because you are not happy with the market rate.

Peace.

yeah..make an reasonable offer that you think is reasonable and stick to it.

If u don't get it..there will be more..

Rhetorical questioning isn't going to help bring your point across well. You might wish to cool down and read my initial post and perhaps re-evaluate your claims. Emotions are likely coloring your comprehension of the text and perception of my intentions.

And please do not defame me. You're making far too many assumptions, and "Peace" at the end surely does not help.

Shrodinger's Cat does give many side lessons - the cat's vitality/mortality is independent of an observer's perception of it.

The buyer's evaluation of the reasonableness of the price offered can be equally independent of the intentions of the seller.

raingrove, I hope you understand what this means, and please do consider the implications before casting any aspersions.
