Hi

Canon HFs10 is so cheap from PriceJapan at S$1385. Any experience? Is PJ reliable?

they are very famous for their projectors, where US, Australia hifi forums always mention their purchse are from PJ... so being such big and expensive items that buyers are not complaining i guess small and cheaper camcorder shld be ok.

anyway, standard policy: after u confirm and pay, they DHL it to u .. if spoil, u sent back and they will do the waranty claim for u then post it back to u .. so if the savings is worth covering the cost of posting it back and the time loss while waiting for the shipment to come back (2 wks in total in normal case), then i say go for it.. btw, flash based camacorder are pretty solid stuff with less moving parts, and most are made in Japan.. so u will expect low chances of breaking down within a year.

Hello, has anyone received their HF S10 from Pricejapan? Any issues with NTSC vs PAL? I am also keen to purchase from PJ but have concerns about the varying opinions I have read. Looking for feedback from someone that is using a HF S10 NTSC format......
Thanks.....

Hi stevei, Why don't you go ahead and buy, and report your findings? :bsmilie: There's really a huge saving from PJ. The issue about flickering lights boils down to whether you or the viewers can accept it when it happens. The chances are good that it may not register; or you may never encounter the situation.

I'm KS and don't like to take chances. My take is that I'm using it in Singapore most of the time, so just get the PAL set (local warrant and all). I shoot for keeps, and others get to operate it too - I set to "P" mode for others to help record footage. So far so good - except OIS is lousy (PAL or NTSC).

Bopian lah must let Canon Singapore earn more [Wong LiLin cost quite a bit]. Furthermore, I can't imagine telling my friends that I spend $1k+ and bought a (ocassional) flickering cam. They're not too keen on the amount I've saved - sad but true.

coffee3in1 : u hv the canon HFS10? and u mention the OIS no good ??

I have been using a HF100 NTSC model bought from Amazon US without any issue. I have used the cam during my overseas trips and when I play them on my flat display at home, i do not see any flickering lights.

Considering that I pay less than $1K when it was then retailing at $2.2K, I will say it is a good buy. But of course, the cam comes with foreign warranty only. My view is that even if I get a faulty cam, I can either ship it back overseas, or repair at some costs in Singapore, and yet still have cash to get another HF100 from Amazon US.

Hi, where did you go overseas? Was it in PAL or NTSC countries?

Went to China, South Korea and Israel. Not sure whether they are PAL or NTSC.

actually, why worry about PAL or NTSC... since most (almost all) TV set are multi system now, therefore u can hv NTSC video playback with no problem unless ur TV is that old...

and if u are not doing any conversion to NTSC-PAL or vice versa, then it shld not hv any problem.. just stick to the native system as per the camera then i don't see it as a concern.

especially the price is so much cheaper from overseas (even after freight and tax)

Yeah. OIS isn't as good compared to Sony/Panasonic.:)

the best is actually sony one.. i think they use optical together with eletronic stabilizer together i suspect..

but the Panasonic OIS is also not to say the best... so i cannot imagine if u say Canon OIS is worst..

surprisingly, my old 4 yrs old DV sony camcorder (H42C) has better stabilizer, despite being a electronic one...
